NBA Rumors: Forget Los Angeles Teams, Dwight Howard Is Heading to New Jersey
Dwight Howard is being rumored to be traded to either the Los Angeles Clippers or Lakers. However, neither of those teams may get the Orland Magic center. The New Jersey Nets will land the big man.
It’s come out today from Hoopsworld.com:
"The Nets are preparing to offer Lopez and two future first-round picks to the Magic in exchange for Howard and Hedo Turkoglu.
"
First, if the Magic trade Howard they would have to get more than just Brook Lopez and draft picks, right? I mean, if this trade goes through, New Jersey wouldn’t be a team that ends the season with an NBA lottery pick.
However, it appears that Howard has leverage in this deal.
"If he wants to play with Deron Williams in New Jersey, this is the offer that starts those talks and, eventually, the Magic may have no choice but to accept it.
"
If you take into consideration Williams, the Nets moving to Brooklyn in the near future and Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov with his deep pockets, it would be wise for Howard to want to play with the Nets.
Hoopsworld.com continues with the rumor of Howard to the Nets with:
"Sources close to the Nets are downplaying this rumor for now. With that said, it’s not a bad offer. Orlando gets a 23-year-old replacement for Howard and a ton of cap room, especially if they amnesty Gilbert Arenas.
"
If this trade would happen it would give the Nets another All-Star. It would free up a lot of salary cap room for Orland, while giving the Magic two first-round draft picks in the next two NBA drafts.
The Magic’s fans will hate this trade, and will resent Howard for the rest of his playing career. If Orlando does make this move it will make fans think the next time they draft a player like Howard, or Shaquille O’Neal, that player will only leave them for a richer contract.
Howard will get moved before this season is over. He may go to one of the Los Angeles teams, or to a team like the Knicks or Nets. Either way, it will make the fans of Orland upset and make Howard a villain for the rest of his career.
