NBA Free Agents 2011: Best Destinations for Jamal Crawford
Jamal Crawford is quite the enigma.
He can be a team's favorite player at times. He has the ability to go off for 40 points on any given night.
However, he can also be just as hated the next night. He jacks up a ton of shots and doesn't give great contributions in any other stat category.
But, honestly, such is the life of a scoring shooting guard. They may be frustrating at times, but they are valuable in the fact they can score the ball. A lot.
Thus, Jamal Crawford, who is an unrestricted free agent, would be a solid buy for a lot of teams out there. Here's a look at three potential suitors.
Indiana Pacers
The backcourt is a little crowded in Indiana, but not with guys of Crawford's talent. Brandon Rush and Dahntay Jones are still there, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the Pacers try and move some of their guards.
Crawford is someone who can create his own shot at will, and that's not something the Pacers have a lot of. A back-court duo of George Hill and Jamal Crawford would be very, very exciting.
Indiana would be smart to pursue this.
New Jersey Nets
The Nets certainly have the cap space for it.
If it wants to keep Deron Williams around, New Jersey will need to get its star point guard some other weapons to keep him happy.
Crawford might just be the first step in doing that.
This is also a smart move for Crawford because, like I said, he could get a lot of money from the deal.
It's scary to think what he might be able to do with a point guard of Deron Williams' caliber playing beside him.
Chicago Bulls
Speaking of playing with a talented point guard, Crawford could make his way to Chicago to play alongside MVP Derrick Rose.
The Bulls may not pick up the option of starting shooting guard Keith Bogans, and even if they do, they could use an upgrade at the position.
Chicago has plenty of options, but there aren't a ton of unrestricted free agents out there as good as Crawford.
One thing possibly stopping this deal, however, would be money. The Bulls have a lot of money invested in Rose, Luol Deng, Carlos Boozer and Joakim Noah, and as a result, they wouldn't be able to give Crawford as much money as some other teams.
Still though, you would think the lure of contending for an NBA title would be incentive enough.
