NBA Rumors: Teams That Should Sign Brandon Roy If He Gets Amnesty-Clause Cut
By the second or third week of any sport's season, many fantasy general managers wish they could have a do-over.
But that's what NBA general managers now get with the return of the amnesty clause.
One of the most intriguing amnesty candidates is the Portland TrailBlazers' Brandon Roy, who is a slam dunk to be waived via amnesty.
Every team in the league could use a Roy, when he's healthy, but not every team will line up to sign him.
Doing so means taking on a guy with chronic bad knees and $50 million left on his contract. Not everyone will be up for that, but those who are could still get a guy who made second-team All-NBA in 2009. With Potland on the hook on Roy's remaining contract, several rebuilding teams could take a shot on the former all-star
Here are a few teams that could be in line to sign Roy.
1. Golden State: The Warriors might be Roy's top choice. They will have cap room and can create more. Roy is a west coast guy, so remaining on the west coast may be a priority to him. Golden State needs a big guy, but bringing in Roy may be too tempting.
2. Minnesota: New coach Rick Adelman is a fan of Roy's. Who wouldn't be after his Game 4 performance against Dallas? There's a lot of interest from Adelman and the 'Wolves, as ESPN's Marc Stein tweeted.
3. New Jersey: If anything, they will have a ton of cap space.
4. Sacramento: Should have the most cap room of any team in the league.
I would find it really hard for a current contender to take a risk on Roy, given his risky knees, but for a team looking to make a splash, he may be worth the risk.
