NBA Trade Rumors: Paul Millsap on the Trading Block?
The lockout appears to finally be over with the season set to begin next month.
Much like what happened after the NFL lockout ended, there will be a frantic pace to sign, trade and fill a roster before the season begins. With that, the rumors will begin to swirl.
One of which involves the Utah Jazz power forward Paul Millsap to the Indiana Pacers. ESPN is reporting the two teams may be in discussion for a second time. The Pacers were apparently interested in Millsap during the draft and may once again be looking into adding his services to their squad.
If the deal does come to fruition it will be a sad day to see Millsap go. He plays with a lot of energy and has become a fan favorite. However, with the Jazz adding Derrick Favors and Enes Kanter, the Jazz suddenly had more bigs than minutes. Someone will need to go.
I personally was hoping Jefferson would be the odd man out as I feel Millsap is more productive and comes with a much cheaper price tag. I have outlined my reasoning on why I believe the Jazz are better without Al Jefferson in a previous article: "NBA: Are the Utah Jazz Better Without Al Jefferson?"
Because Millsap is just as productive but has a smaller contract and is a hustle player despite being undersized, he may be more coveted by other teams around the league.
If the Jazz and Pacers did make a deal who or what would be involved? Danny Granger? Draft Picks? Bringing in a third team? or some combination?
Either way, these next few weeks could potentially add a little extra work for the Jazz front office than simply preparing for the season in a shorter amount of time.
