2011 NBA Free Agents: 5 Biggest Bargains on the Free Agent Market

Matt ShetlerNov 28, 2011

Everyone will be looking at where the high-priced top-tier free agents land when the NBA free agency period kicks off in December.

While those guys will certainly make their teams better, there are also several guys out there who may be falling under the radar.

Good teams have role players who contribute, and these five guys could fit those exact roles.

Even better, they can likely be had at a bargain price.

Chris Wilcox

1 of 5

Wilcox was a guy who once averaged 13.4 points and 7.4 rebounds per game over two seasons as a starter in Seattle.

Injuries forced him into a reduced role the past few seasons in Detroit, but his per-minute averages were a career best.

He's 29-years old, but he'll be entering his 10th season in the league. He brings energy and toughness, and he'd be a serviceable third big guy on a decent team.

Earl Clark

2 of 5

Clark was once a lottery pick, and he has talent. It may take some more time for his offensive game to come around, but he would be a nice cheap signing for any team.

He's a very good on-ball defender, and his length makes things difficult for most people he has to guard.

Many teams could use a guy that they can run out on the defensive end of the floor late in close games. A guy like Earl Clark can fit that bill nicely.

C.J. Miles

3 of 5

Miles is another guy whose defensive skills could prove valuable to many teams.

He's very capable at the defensive end of the floor, and he does have a decent offensive game that might get better in a different system.

Either way, a young guy like Miles, who can be a nice role player, should interest quite a few teams.

Chuck Hayes

4 of 5

Hayes should get decent money and possibly a lengthy deal, but it won't be big money. For the intangibles that he brings to a team, the dollars will look like a bargain.

Dwight Howard received all the first-place votes except two when he won the Defensive Player of the Year award. A little known fact is that Hayes received the other two.

He's the NBA's smallest center, but he's tough and gritty, and although he's known more for his work on the defensive end of the floor, Hayes is coming off his best offensive season in the NBA.

You can't put a value on defense and rebounding, but those guys don't get the big dollars. That will make Hayes a big bargain signing.

Michael Redd

5 of 5

Redd has seen his once promising career derailed by injuries, having only played 61 games in the past three seasons.

Yet he came back after his latest knee injury to play the final 10 games of the season last year.

After a summer of work, Redd will either find a home coming off the bench with a contender, or he could sign a deal with a non-contender willing to give him a chance to start.

Either way, the guy can still shoot, and can be had cheap.

Getting instant offense for a bargain could go a long way in any team's playoff run.
