2011 NBA Free Agents: Brandon Roy Would Bring Chicago Bulls a Championship

Josh SchochNov 27, 2011

The only question for the Chicago Bulls post-NBA lockout is at shooting guard, and signing Brandon Roy to fill that void would give them an NBA Championship.

With the new amnesty clause in place, the Portland Trail Blazers are expected to release Brandon Roy, relieving them of the responsibility of his $50 million contract over the next four years.

When Roy is waived the Bulls should jump on him, trying their best to add him to their team.

The Bulls were the best team in the East last year but fell short in the playoffs because they lacked a shooting guard. While Derrick Rose is a stud, he needs some help in the backcourt if this team is going to win it all.

The Bulls are going to have some flexibility during free agency because of the new collective bargaining agreement, and they will use that to go after Roy.

The team tried to address their concerns in the backcourt by drafting Norris Cole, but the 6'2" guard is too small and does not have the range to be an NBA shooting guard. While he could play point and have Rose play shooting guard, that would be a mistake, as Rose is clearly a point guard.

The Bulls must find a way to add a shooting guard through free agency: it is the only way they can win an NBA title.

The Bulls do not need to address any position other than shooting guard. Besides Rose, they have a formidable frontcourt of Joakim Noah, Luol Deng and Carlos Boozer. These three helped Chicago along its path to another NBA championship, but could not do it all.

Roy was once a stud and he still has that potential. If he can bring that talent to Chicago, no one can stop the Bulls on their way to the NBA finals and another title. Not even the Miami Heat and their Big Three could stop this team with Roy.

While Roy has had some trouble with injuries, as long as he is healthy during the playoffs, the Bulls will win it all.

The Bulls were the best team in the regular season last year, going 62-20. By adding Roy we could easily see them go 67-15, and win the Eastern Conference. While they will surely have some competition along the way, the Bulls would set themselves up for an NBA championship by adding Roy, and that should be their first priority.
