Memphis Grizzlies and OJ Mayo Need to Part Ways

Donald WoodNov 26, 2011

The Memphis Grizzlies were one of the biggest surprises last season, but they will be trying to take that next step up on the ladder.

They might use the "addition by subtraction" theory as to get rid of the bad attitude that O.J. Mayo was known to carry at times. Either way, he could get the Grizzlies a solid player in return.

With a good chance that Mayo is on the move, these are the teams most likely hot on the trail of some Mayo.

New York KnicksThe New York Knicks had their fingerprints all over a possible Mayo deal last season, but nothing came to pass in time.

Mayo is a versatile guard that can play in almost any system and excel. When his head is on straight, he makes the team around him much better.

If New York can make this move without giving up the rest of the young players it has left after the Carmelo Anthony trade, this would be a perfect move.

Indiana PacersAt the NBA trade deadline last season, the Grizzlies wanted to trade Mayo to the Indiana Pacers in return for Josh McRoberts and a first-round pick.

The deal was voided due to the trade being completed after the actual deadline.

When the trade and free-agent market opens again, expect the Pacers to look to the Grizzlies once again as trade partners.

Minnesota TimberwolvesWe can’t forget that it was the Timberwolves that drafted Mayo out of college before trading him for Kevin Love.

The Timberwolves' ideal move would be getting both and pairing them with the other potential future stars Minnesota has.

If the Wolves could just trade a pick and a role player, they would have a young team with an outside chance at making a run at the playoffs
