NBA Lockout Ends: NBA Season Begins and Its the Best Christmas Present Ever

Joseph GoodeNov 26, 2011

In the midst of the owners and players tentatively agreeing on a deal to end the lockout, we can now wipe the sweat off of our faces and get ready for some basketball. The thought of having no NBA season is horrific, and I couldn't imagine it happening.

The NBA season will officially begin on Christmas, and we will have a 66 game season. It takes away about a month and half of basketball, and that is good enough for me.

Being from Sacramento, I am a true Kings fan. We literally have nothing to do except for root for out beloved Kings. Our city united and put all our efforts to keep the Kings for at least one more season, and quite possibly another tenure, only to have that momentum crushed by the greedy lockout.

I cannot wait to see how Tyreke Evans and DeMarcus Cousins will progress this season. I am also curious to see what type of player Jimmer Fredette is in the NBA, and my eyes will be glued to the tube. The Kings are hoping for a star point guard in Jimmer, while the rest of the league sees another Tim Tebow for the NBA. Nevertheless, I am excited, and ready.

I am ready to see if Lebron and his “Heatles” can redeem themselves, and bring another championship to South Beach, but being a hater as I am, I am actually intrigued to see them falter once again this time at the hands of Kevin Durant.

Durant has taken the summer league circuit by storm hitting game winners and scoring 50 points on numerous occasions. As the season opens up, people questioned his chemistry with the budding Russell Westbrook, which is reminiscent of the Garnett and Marbury pairing in the 90’s. The Thunder are built to be exciting and ready to win now. I can see Kevin Durant taking the league by storm in only 66 games.

The ascension of Dirk Nowitzki’s legacy to greatness with a dominating performance in the 2011 playoffs, and an unbelievable series in the championship against the Heat only has me clawing to see what Dirk can do this season. Will he be able to bring the Mavericks another championship or will age catch up with him?

There are so many questions this season including what the aging Lakers and Celtics will do as well as what we will see from the Knicks. Also, the question is if the talents of Dwight Howard, Chris Paul and Deron Williams will be wasted for another season until they are traded or until they hit free agency next season.

With only a month of revamping the rosters and ramping for training camp, what will these teams do to make themselves better? Who will be on the move? Will the players who are playing overseas come back to the NBA this season or stay?

Excitement, overjoy and giddiness is filled inside of me as if I was an eight-year-old waiting at the mall to give my list to Santa, and guess what? The NBA starts on Christmas day with the Celtics and Knicks kicking off a triple header with the rematch of the Heat and Mavericks, and then the day finishes off with the Lakers and Bulls.

As I open my presents on Christmas day, the only presents I look forward to is the start of the NBA season. The lockout is officially over, and as I sit here typing wearing my Sacramento Kings shirt just hoping that my team will be better this season and counting the days until the first day of the season.
