Virginia Military vs. Ohio State: TV Schedule, Live Stream, Game Time and More

Eric BallNov 22, 2011

The Ohio State Buckeyes football program may be grabbing the headlines with their reported decision to hire Urban Meyer, but you can’t forget about the third-ranked team in the country on the hardwood.

Sophomore forward Jared Sullinger is off to another strong start (20.5 PPG, 9.8 RPG) as the Buckeyes have raced out to a 4-0 start by an average win margin of 29.2 points.

The schedule has been demanding early on. This is the second game of three in the span of five days. They play Valparaiso on Friday before their big showdown with No. 6 Duke on the 29th.

VMI is off to a 3-1 start behind the balance of six players averaging at least 10 points per game. Forward Stan Okoye and guard Keith Gabriel have emerged as the top scoring threats on a team that prides itself on balance.

Here’s everything you need to know about the third all-time meeting between these two schools.

When: 7:00 PM EST, Wednesday, November 23rd

Where: Value City Arena, Columbus, Ohio

Watch: Big Ten Network

Listen: 97.1 The Fan in Columbus and WREL. 96.7 FM in Virginia

Stream: You can listen to the entire game here on the Ohio State team website.

Key Matchup For VMI:

Keep Ohio State out of the paint and force the Buckeyes into launching a plethora of threes.

OSU is only hitting 26 percent of shots from behind the arc because of the struggles of their top perimeter players. Senior guard William Buford (14.5 PPG, 4.3 RPG) is connecting on 28 percent of his threes, sophomore forward Deshaun Thomas (12.8 PPG, 5.0 RPG) is hitting a mere 18 percent.

Considering they hit just under 47 percent of their total field goals—keep ‘em launching. VMI can’t stop them in the paint.

Key Matchup For Ohio State:

Do just the opposite. The Keydets are averaging over 88 points per game this season and are launching threes at a ridiculous 48.6 rate of their total field-goal attempts. If they can start out hot and keep the Buckeyes out of the paint while quieting the crowd, this is going to be a close game in the second half.

What They’re Saying:

Sullinger isn’t upset about the hectic early season slate; he likens it to a preview of coming attractions:

"

(In March) you play on a Friday, you're off on Saturday and you have a little practice, and then you're right back at it on Sunday. It's a quick turnaround. So it's kind of a test for what we've got coming. It's almost like a midterm for March.

"

When your team is outscoring opponents by 24 points a game, you have to start looking at games in this manner. It’s just another reason to love Sullinger, he is mature beyond his years.

Prediction:

The Buckeyes are too experienced and too talented to let a mediocre VCU team hang around.

Sullinger is my pick for Player of the Year early on, as he’s averaging about a point a minute (47 in 48) in the past two games.

With the home crowd feeling extra fired up with the hiring of Meyer, expect this to get out of hand early as the Keydets play their first ranked opponent since 2006, which was a blowout loss to the Buckeyes.
