NFL Power Rankings: 3 Most Disappointing Teams of the Season

Ryan RudnanskyNov 22, 2011

It's not easy living with high expectations in the NFL, but expectations are high in the first place because teams have the ability to do big things.

Coaches and players constantly think the media and fans are out to get them, when in reality we had high hopes for them in the first place but they let us down.

Three teams in particular should be blaming themselves for falling well short of expectations this season.

3. New York Jets (5-5)

Jets head coach Rex Ryan is his own worst enemy.

He constantly builds up expectations by declaring his team will win the Super Bowl, and when it goes awry, he and his team look like fools.

This team's pass defense will always keep it in games, but when Ryan declared inconsistent quarterback Mark Sanchez would be the starter as long as he was around, he may have dug his own grave.

Sanchez, nor running back Shonn Greene, are the franchise pieces the Jets are proclaiming them to be, and it's hurting them each and every season.

2. Philadelphia Eagles (4-6)

The Eagles may indeed be the most disappointing team this season based on it basically being "Super Bowl or Bust" from the very start.

But at least they have one win.

It's been an absolute disaster this season for the talented Eagles, who have seen pretty much every offseason signing except for defensive ends Cullen Jenkins and Jason Babin disappoint.

On top of that, Michael Vick has been a shadow of his former self and it begs the question whether his late season struggles in 2010 mark a trend that will continue from here on out.

The Eagles had Miami Heat hype this offseason, but they've crash landed.

1. Indianapolis Colts (0-10)

I understand that the Colts lost Peyton Manning in the offseason and had to settle for Curtis Painter/Kerry Collins.

But that's no excuse for the entire team to lie down and go to sleep on the football field.

This has been a widespread letdown from the very start, beginning at the quarterback position and spreading throughout the offense and defense. It's a deplorable job.

The Colts weren't just decimated by injuries.

They spontaneously combusted when they decided to quit from Week 1 on.
