Betting Line

According to bodog.edu the line is Memphis favored by five points. These two teams are polar opposites of each other. While Memphis likes to run up and down the court, Michigan likes to play a conservative style of offense focusing on their defense.

You should take Memphis in this game as their run-and-gun will be too much for Michigan to handle.

What’s at Stake

This is an opening-round match of the Maui Invitational. Now, a loss here will not ruin any of these teams' chances at staying in the Top 25. However, it’s always nice to win one of these early season tournaments. Usually they come back when determining where you are seeded in the NCAA tournament in March.

What They Are Saying

"

Barton was one of three Tigers to score at least 20 points, recording a career-high 23 on 7 of 12 shooting. Despite the high-scoring display, Barton knows it will take further similar efforts to squash any qualms about the legitimacy of his team’s high ranking.

“We feel disrespected. We really do,” Barton said. “People are saying we’re the most overrated top 10 team in the country. We don’t like that. We’re just focused.

“We’re not cocky or nothing like that. We just want to prove we’re one of the best teams in the country, too.”

Memphis Players To Watch

Sophomore Guard Will Barton

Barton leads this team in points and rebounds after their first game. He is the leader of this year’s Tigers team and will be very involved in Memphis offense today.

Sophomore Guard Joe Jackson

Jackson is the man to get this Tigers team going as the offense starts with him. He will be the fastest player on the court today and will cause Michigan headaches trying to stop him.

Freshman Forward Adonis Thomas

Thomas is one of those players that is ready for the NBA right now. He will be a dominant force in the paint today against Michigan.

Michigan Players To Watch

Sophomore Guard Tim Hardaway Jr.

Hardaway Jr. has established himself as one of Michigan’s best players. He had a great freshman year, and leads this Michigan team in scoring this year.

Sophomore Forward Jordan Morgan

Morgan will have his hands full with Memphis’ Thomas, as the two forwards will be battling all game for rebounds. Morgan does lead this Michigan team in rebounds this year and will have to have a big game today for the Wolverines.

Freshman Guard Trey Burke

Burke will have his hands full with Memphis’ Jackson, as the freshman has the daunting task of leading this Michigan offense against a very fast Memphis defense.

Key Matchup: Memphis’ Joe Jackson vs. the Michigan Guards

Jackson is the quickest player on the court today and will give these Michigan guards a problem today. Unless Michigan can trap Jackson and bottle him up, he will be the reason why Memphis wins today.

Prediction

Memphis is just too fast for Michigan to handle as this game should be close, with Memphis pulling away in the second half.

Memphis 75 Michigan 64
