Top 50 Most Important Things We Learned from the NFL's Week 11

Tony SantorsaNov 20, 2011

The NFL's Week 11 saw quite an interesting slate of games. The Green Bay Packers won yet another game, Jake Locker played well, Cam Newton turned the ball over four times, and it's Tebow time in Denver.

In that spirit, allow me to kick off the start to your work week with a recap of Week 11's action.

Here are the top 50 most important things that we learned from the NFL's Week 11.

It's Tebow Time in Denver

1 of 50

There is no doubt about this one: It is Tebow time in Denver! Believe in the Tebow magic!

Tebow led the Denver Broncos on an incredible 95-yard game-winning drive, capped off with a 20-yard touchdown run to give his Broncos a 17-13 victory over the New York Jets.

The Broncos are now 5-5 on the season while the Jets fall to 5-5. These are two teams that are headed in complete opposite directions.

The New York Jets Are in Deep Trouble

2 of 50

Just eight days ago the New York Jets were 5-3 and looking to knock off the New England Patriots on Sunday Night Football—that fell flat on their faces on nation television.

Since then, the Jets lost against Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos and are now a pitiful 5-5.

Tim Tebow Is a Winner

3 of 50

I have said this every single week and I will continue to say it until everyone believes me—Tim Tebow is a winner.

Against the New York Jets, Tebow was a non-factor until it mattered the most and that's when he marched down the field 95 yards and punched in a 20 yard touchdown to put the Denver Broncos up for good.

With Kyle Orton at quarterback, the Broncos started off 1-4 and now with Tebow, they have complete turned it around and are now a stellar 4-1.

Mark Sanchez Is Still Making Rookie Mistakes

4 of 50

Mark Sanchez is what is holding the New York Jets. It's plain and simple.

The Jets should have beat the Denver Broncos on Thursday night, but Sanchez and New York's offense were simply ineffective as they scored only 13 points.

Sanchez was absolutely horrendous as he completed 24 of his 40 passes for 252 yards while being picked off once. It certainly appears that New York still has Sanchez on a short leash, as all of his passes are short-to-intermediate throws.

Denver Can Build Around Tim Tebow and Succeed with the Option

5 of 50

Once the season is over, John Elway needs to call up Georgia Tech and scout some of their players and possibly ask for a copy of their handbook as the option can be utilized with Tim Tebow as Denver's quarterback.

Call me crazy, but it can work. I mean, it worked against one of the NFL's best defenses, the New York Jets.

I'm not saying give up on developing Tebow, but always keep the option in the playbook.

Denver Has a Suffocating Pass Rush

6 of 50

The Denver Broncos proved Thursday night that their defense can win them football games, especially their pass rush.

Denver sacked Mark Sanchez three times and always seemed to put pressure on him every single time he stepped back to pass.

The combination of Von Miller and Elvis Dumervil is extremely dangerous.

Tim Tebow Is a Better Quarterback Than Mark Sanchez

7 of 50

I think that this is so clear and easy to understand: Tim Tebow can win you football games, Mark Sanchez can not lose you football games.

Tebow can go out there and actually win you a game when Sanchez plays like he's trying not to lose.

The New York Jets have put a very short leash on Sanchez while the Denver Broncos have built a series of plays around Tebow.

Who would you rather have start of quarterback to win you one game, Tebow or Sanchez?

Adrian Peterson Could Be out for a Short Length of Time

8 of 50

Adrian Peterson left Sunday's game with an apparent ankle injury against the Oakland Raiders after rushing six times for a total of 26 yards while punching in a touchdown.

According to sources, A.P. will undergo an MRI Monday but all signs indicate that it's just a sprain with no long-term damages.

Carson Palmer Looked Impressive Against the Minnesota Vikings

9 of 50

Despite being sacked four times, Carson Palmer played very well as he completed 73.9 percent of his passes for 164 yards and a touchdown.

Palmer and the Oakland Raiders are now 6-4 with their 27-21 victory over the Minnesota Vikings.

Michael Bush Is the NFL's Most Underrated Running Back

10 of 50

Michael Bush is like a human bowling ball. Bush ran the ball 30 times for a solid 109 yards against the Minnesota Vikings as he punched in one touchdown.

Don't you think that it's safe to say that Bush deserves a starting job?

Christian Ponder Still Has a Lot of Work to Do

11 of 50

At times Christian Ponder looked like a very good quarterback but for the most part he played like a rookie against the Oakland Raiders.

Ponder did throw for 211 yards, two touchdowns and rush for 71 yards but he was picked off three times.

The FSU product certainly has a lot of talent and upside, but still has a lot of work to do.

The Vikings Are Lost Without Adrian Peterson

12 of 50

Christian Ponder can't simply throw the team on his back, as he's only a rookie and he still has a lot of developing to do. Ponder needs a running game and without Adrian Peterson, the Minnesota Vikings are lost.

Peterson's replacement, Tony Gerhart, struggled to get any rhythm as he ran for 18 yards on just seven carries.

The Buffalo Bills Are Falling Apart

13 of 50

Ever since their Week 7 bye, the Buffalo Bills have been a complete mess as they have lost three of their four games.

This past weekend, the Bills fell 35-8 to the lowly Miami Dolphins.

The Bills are at an all-time low right now.

Matt Moore Isn't a Bad Quarterback After All

14 of 50

Believe it or not, Matt Moore has been playing well as of late and was a key part in the Miami Dolphins' impressive 35-8 victory over the Buffalo Bills.

Moore completed 70 percent of his passes for 160 yards and a remarkable three touchdowns.

Ryan Fitzpatrick Was Absolutely Embarrassing Against the Miami Dolphins

15 of 50

It's certainly safe to say that Ryan Fitzpatrick is in a slump and he is a huge reason to the Buffalo Bills major struggles as of late.

Against the Miami Dolphins, Fitzpatrick was picked off two times as well as completing only 51.8 percent of his passes.

Reggie Bush's Success Continues Against the Buffalo Bills

16 of 50

Fantasy owners take note: Reggie Bush is finally producing as a Miami Dolphin.

Against the Buffalo Bills, Bush scored one touchdown as well as accumulating 66 total yards of offense.

Fred Jackson Was a Not Effective Against the Miami Dolphins

17 of 50

Andy Dalton either played like a seasoned veteran or like a clueless rookie Sunday afternoon against the Baltimore Ravens—he was at both ends of the spectrum.

Dalton did throw for 373 yards and a touchdown but was picked off three times while completing 53.3 percent of his passes.

It certainly appears that Dalton is not ready to lead the Cincinnati Bengals to key wins over divisional rivals like the Ravens and the Steelers.

Joe Flacco Finally Showed Up for the Baltimore Ravens

18 of 50

In a game that Joe Flacco and the Baltimore Ravens needed a lot—Flacco simply stepped up and played like an elite level.

Flacco completed 17 of his 27 passes for 270 yards while tossing a touchdown and posting a solid 105.5 quarterback rating.

Blaine Gabbert Was a Non-Factor Against the Cleveland Browns

19 of 50

With the success that Jake Locker, Cam Newton and Christian Ponder are having, when do you think Jacksonville Jaguar fans will start getting worried? Blaine Gabbert hasn't been that promising thus far.

In a very winnable game against the Cleveland Browns, Gabbert literally was invisible. He completed 53.7 percent of his passes for 210 yards while scoring no touchdowns and not turning the ball over.

Colt McCoy Showed Promising Signs Against the Jacksonville Jaguars

20 of 50

Colt McCoy finally played like the quarterback that looked like a year ago. McCoy was gusty and simply got the job done against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Texas product completed 70.8 percent of his passes for 199 yards while tossing a touchdown and recording a 92.2 quarterback rating.

The Dallas Cowboys Continue to Roll with Victory over the Washington Redskins

21 of 50

The Dallas Cowboys won their third straight game in dramatic fashion by knocking off the Washington Redskins in overtime, 27-24.

The Cowboys are one of the hottest team in the NFL and are crawling their way back into the tops of the NFC.

Rex Grossman Needs to Be Washington's Quarterback from Here on out

22 of 50

Forget John Beck, Rex Grossman needs to be the Washington Redskins starting quarterback for the remainder of the season.

I realize that Grossman is not a very good quarterback, but he played very well against the Dallas Cowboys. He posted a 95.2 quarterback rating while tossing the game-tying touchdown to Donte Stallworth with just 14 seconds left in the game.

Tony Romo Is White Hot

23 of 50

Opposing defenses need to fear Tony Romo—he is on fire right now, he is white hot.

Romo threw three touchdown passes against the Washington Redskins while completing 62.2 percent of his passes for 292 yards.

DeMarco Murray Is Better Than Felix Jones

24 of 50

The Dallas Cowboys need to realize that DeMarco Murray is the better running back on their roster and need to keep feeding him the rock. Sorry, Felix Jones.

Murray ran for 73 yards against the Redskins while reeling in six passes for 32 yards.

The Redskins Have No Running Game Without Tim Hightower

25 of 50

With Tim Hightower tearing his ACL a few weeks ago, the Washington Redskins have struggled tremendously on the ground.

Against the Dallas Cowboys, the team only managed to accumulate 60 yards on the ground while averaging only 2.5 yards per-carry.

The Green Bay Packers Cannot Be Stopped

26 of 50

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers certainly put up a fight against the Green Bay Packers, but Aaron Rodger and the team's offense was simply too much for the Bucs.

The Packers accumulated 378 total yards on offense while knocking off Tampa Bay 35-26.

Green Bay is now a perfect 10-0 on the season.

Josh Freeman Played Well Against the Reigning Super Bowl Champs

27 of 50

Despite being picked off twice, Josh Freeman give the Tampa Bay Buccaneers a chance to beat the Green Bay Packers on Sunday afternoon.

The Kansas State product completed 73.7 percent of his passes for 342 yards while tossing two touchdowns.

Tampa Bay now falls to 4-6 with Sunday's loss.

Jordy Nelson Is the NFL's Most Explosive Wide Receiver

28 of 50

Forget DeSean Jackson and Victor Cruz. Jordy Nelson is the NFL's most explosive wide receiver.

Sunday against the Buccaneers, Nelson caught six passes for an incredible 123 yards and two touchdowns and averaged 20.5 yards per-reception.

Aaron Rodgers Is the NFL's Best Player

29 of 50

There is no doubt in my mind right now. Aaron Rodgers cannot be stopped and he is the NFL's most dominant player. He is the best.

Rodgers threw for 299 yards against Tampa Bay while tossing three touchdowns and posting a 112.3 quarterback rating. Rodgers not only produced in the air, but he was a threat on the ground as he accumulated 28 rushing yards.

Detroit Is Finally Winning Again

30 of 50

After going on a bit of a little skid, the Detroit Lions bounce back Sunday afternoon with a solid 49-35 victory over the Carolina Panthers.

Detroit's offense clicked as they accumulated 495 yards of total offense.

The Lions are now 7-3 on the season and are preparing to host the undefeated Green Bay Packers on Thanksgiving.

Matthew Stafford Bounces Back in a Big Way Against the Panthers

31 of 50

After literally stinking up the place last weekend against the Chicago Bears, Matthew Stafford bounced back in a big way against the Carolina Panthers.

Stafford completed 28 of his 36 passes for 335 yards while tossing an impressive five touchdowns.

Kevin Smith Is Back in the NFL and Is Producing at a High Level

32 of 50

Kevin Smith had a stellar rookie season with the Detroit Lions back in 2008 but since then had been dealing with knee and thumb injuries which resulted in the Lions not resigning him earlier this year.

However the Lions were thin at running backs entering Week 11 and needed to give Smith a call and he produced in a big way.

Smith ran for 140 yards on just 16 carries against the Carolina Panthers while scoring three touchdowns and catching four passes for 61 yards.

Cam Newton Cannot Throw Interceptions and Expect to Win

33 of 50

Cam Newton was simply terrible against the Detroit Lions. He looked like a rookie.

Despite throwing a touchdown, Newton was picked off four times. It's crucial that the rookie out of Auburn takes care of the ball as that's one of reasons why the Panthers lost today against a very good Lions team.

San Francisco Is the Second Best Team in the NFL

34 of 50

The San Francisco 49ers are now 9-1 on the season and now have won eight games in a row.

They're the second best team in the NFL. Does anyone care to disagree?

John Skelton Is Not a Starting Quarterback

35 of 50

Against the NFL's best defense, John Skelton looked like a Pop Warner football player out there.

Skelton finished Sunday's game with a pitiful 10.5 quarterback rating while completing only 31.6 percent of his passes for 99 yards and throwing three interceptions.

When is Kevin Kolb coming back?

Alex Smith's Success Continues Against the Cardinals

36 of 50

Week in and week out, Alex Smith always finds a way to impressive me.

Against the Arizona Cardinals, Smith played very well as he completed 52.6 percent of his passes for two touchdowns and being picked off only once. Granted, this was not his best performance, but he did what he had to do in order to win and has now led the 49ers to eight straight victories.

Larry Fitzgerald Is Arizona's Lone Offensive Weapon

37 of 50

Larry Fitzgerald appears to be the only offensive player for the Arizona Cardinals that actually produces.

In the team's putrid loss against the San Francisco 49ers, Fitzgerald caught three passes for 41 yards and a touchdown. Keep in mind, that's with John Skelton at quarterback.

Seattle vs. St. Louis Was a Snoozer

38 of 50

Did anyone watch this meaningless game? I mean, the Seattle Seahawks and the St. Louis Rams are two horrific football teams in 2011.

Seattle ended up knocking off the Rams 24-7.

Marshawn Lynch Continues to Play Well for the Seattle Seahawks

39 of 50

Marshawn Lynch was an integral part in Seattle's offense in their 24-7 victory over the St. Louis Rams.

Lynch ran for 88 yards whiles scoring a touchdown on the ground.

The Seattle Seahawks are now 4-6 on the season, which is good enough for second place in the NFC West.

The St. Louis Rams Could End Up Winning the Andrew Luck Sweepstakes

40 of 50

Now wouldn't this be an interesting scenario?

Assuming that the Indianapolis Colts do win at least two games this season and the St. Louis Rams end up with the No. 1 overall pick in next year's draft—what do they do? Do they trade the pick or do they trade Sam Bradford

Personally, I would trade Bradford and take Andrew Luck and build around him.

What do you think?

Norv Turner Needs to Be Fired

41 of 50

If A.J. Smith does not fire Norv Turner, then I will confidently label Smith as a complete moron.

Turner's San Diego Chargers have now lost five in a row and there is no excuse for a team to be losing that many in a row, they're simply too talented.

The Chargers are now 4-6 on the season.

The Chicago Bears Continue to Roll as One of the Better Teams in the NFC

42 of 50

The Chicago Bears have now won five games in a row and are 7-3 on the season.

Chicago simply lit up the San Diego Chargers this past Sunday, as they put up 379 yards of total offense and walked away with a 31-20 victory.

Jay Cutler Could Be out for the Season

43 of 50

According to sources, Jay Cutler has a broken thumb on his right hand and could possibly miss the remainder of the season.

How big of a blow is that? Cutler is having such an amazing season and it could be coming to an end rather quickly.

Philip Rivers Is a Fraud

44 of 50

Elite quarterbacks don't allow their teams to lose five games in a row while throwing two interceptions in the team's fifth consecutive loss.

Philip Rivers is nothing short of being a fraud.

The Atlanta Falcons Appear to Be Back on Track

45 of 50

After losing a tough, heart-breaking overtime game against the New Orleans Saints. the Atlanta Falcons bounce right back with a solid 23-17 victory over the Tennessee Titans.

Atlanta is now 6-4 on the season and appear to have life again.

Jake Locker Plays Well in Relief of Matt Hasselbeck

46 of 50

Jake Locker has been the most limited quarterback out of all the first-rounders taken this past draft but shined in his limited time against the Atlanta Falcons.

In relief of Matt Hasselbeck, Locker went nine of 19 for 140 yards while tossing two touchdowns and posting a stellar 107.3 quarterback rating against one of the NFL's better defenses.

Matt Ryan Is a Great Quarterback, Not Elite Quite Yet

47 of 50

Matt Ryan's getting there. He's a very good quarterback, in fact he's great, but he's not elite quite yet.

Against the Tennessee Titans, Ryan went 22 of 32 passing for 316 yards while throwing a touchdown to Tony Gonzalez.

Michael Turner Is Atlanta's Best Offensive Player

48 of 50

I think that it's safe to label Michael Turner as the human-bowling ball. He is an absolute monster.

Against the Tennessee Titans, Turner ran for 100 yards on 21 carries while punching in a touchdown.

Turner is the juice that keeps Atlanta's offense flowing.

Eli Manning Fails to Come Through in Final Drive Against Philadelphia

49 of 50

The New York Giants fell just short against the Michael Vick-less Philadelphia Eagles, 17-10.

Eli Manning had the ball with about two minutes left in the game and appeared to be driving for the game tying touchdown, but he simply fumbled the ball which sealed Philadelphia's huge upset victory.

The Philadelphia Eagles Are Alive

50 of 50

Don't cross off the Philadelphia Eagles quite yet. They're 4-6 after a huge divisional victory over the New York Giants.

Without Michael Vick and Jeremy Maclin, Vince Young was able to lead the Eagles to a solid 17-10 win.

The chances of making the playoffs are still slim, but there is still hope in Philly.
