Mid-Major Top 25: Long Beach, Cleveland State Making Noise with Top 10 Upsets

1. Gonzaga Bulldogs

Record: 3-0

Gonzaga is living up to preseason expectations with wins in its first three games, including a win over the Pac-12's Washington State.

2. Creighton Bluejays

Record: 4-0

Creighton has already picked up a pair of solid wins, defeating UAB and Iowa. 

3. Long Beach State 49ers

Record: 2-1

Long Beach State pulled off an upset at No. 9 Pittsburgh early in the week, but the 49ers could not sweep their road trip, falling to San Diego State in overtime.

4. Belmont Bruins

Record: 2-2

Don't be fooled by Belmont's record. The Bruins' two losses are to No. 6 Duke and No. 10 Memphis.

5. Wichita State Shockers

Record: 2-2

After opening the season at 2-0, the Shockers dropped a pair of games in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off. They start a three-game homestand on Friday against UAB.

6. Iona Gaels

Record: 2-1

After dropping a heartbreaker to Purdue, Iona rebounded with a pair of wins and a fifth place finish at the Puerto Rico Tip-Off. A few weeks into the season, the Gaels' Scott Machado is leading the nation in assists.

7. Harvard Crimson

Record: 2-0

Harvard opened up the season with a pair of road wins over Holy Cross and Loyola Marymount. The Crimson will play in the Battle 4 Atlantis this week, opening against the Utah Utes.

8. St. Mary's Gaels

Record: 1-0

It wasn't very pretty, but St. Mary's came away with a 16-point win against Northern Iowa in its first game of the season.

9. Kent State Golden Flashes

Record: 2-0

Kent State pulled of an upset over West Virginia last Tuesday and followed it up with an easy win over Alcorn State. The Golden Flashes will play their next four games at home.

10. Cleveland State Vikings

Record: 2-0

Cleveland State stunned No. 7 Vanderbilt with a 71-58 win. The Vikings are off to another great start. Last year, they began the season with 12 straight wins.

11. Butler Bulldogs

Record: 1-2

Butler is off to a slow start this year with losses to Evansville and Louisville. If the Bulldogs do not pull things together, they will be in a position where they have to win the Horizon League to make the NCAA tournament.

12. Brigham Young Cougars

Record: 1-1

BYU rebounded from its loss at Utah State with an easy win over Longwood. 

13. Old Dominion Monarchs

Record: 3-2

Old Dominion's three-game winning streak was snapped with a loss to Kentucky in the Hall of Fame Tip-Off championship. 

14. Detroit Titans

Record: 0-1

Detroit held a second half lead over Notre Dame but ultimately fell to the Fighting Irish, 59-53. As part of the CBE Classic, the Titans will play George Washington tonight.

15. Northern Iowa Panthers

Record: 2-1

Northern Iowa surprisingly won by 17 points at Old Dominion to start the season and then won its home opener over Northern Colorado. 

16. Virginia Commonwealth Rams

Record: 2-2

VCU ended its two-game slide with a win over Western Kentucky in the Charleston Classic. The Rams will have a rematch with Western Kentucky on Wednesday.

17. Drexel Dragons

Record: 1-2

After a season-opening win at Rider, Drexel lost its first two games at the Paradise Jam. The Dragons will play tonight against Winthrop in their final game of the early season tournament.

18. George Mason Patriots

Record: 2-2

Three of George Mason's four games have gone into overtime. In those games, the Patriots are 1-2.

19. Ohio Bobcats

Record: 3-0

Ohio improved to 3-0 with a win over Arkansas State on Sunday. The Bobcats will have their first big test of the season at Louisville on Friday.

20. Weber State Wildcats

Record: 2-0

Weber State has won a pair of games so far. The Wildcats will not play again until December 2 when they play San Jose State.

21. Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders

Record: 4-1

Middle Tennessee picked up its first loss in the thriller against Belmont. The Blue Raiders will take on the Cumberland Bulldogs on Tuesday.

22. College of Charleston Cougars

Record: 3-0

Charleston picked up a key win at Clemson on Saturday. The Cougars will be back in action at the Battle 4 Atlantis where they open up against Central Florida. 

23. Missouri State Bears

Record: 2-0

Missouri State opened up the season with a pair of road wins over Nevada and Arkansas State. The Bears will play their first home game against Tulsa on Saturday.

24. Fairfield Stags

Record: 2-2

Fairfield ended a two-game slide with a win over Holy Cross on Sunday. The Stags will have a chance to make some noise this week at the Old Spice Classic.

25. Valparaiso Crusaders

Record: 3-1

After opening the season with a loss to No. 16 Arizona, Valparaiso has been red hot. The Crusaders start a three-game road trip against No. 3 Ohio State on Friday.
