NBA Lockout Video: Watch NBA Breakdown CBA Proposal
The NBA released a slideshow the other day to help break down its collective bargaining proposal to the players’ union.
Obviously, this is a ridiculous and biased piece of propaganda put on YouTube to try and swing fans to their side.
Just look at it.
The first slide talks about how the deal would guarantee 50 percent of basketball-related income (BRI) to players.
They were pulling in 57 percent before the lockout. It says it would increase average player salary.
Under the old CBA, it increased 16 percent over the six years it was in place.
They say it will promote spending on free agents.
Did we not just have one of the wildest free-agent spending sprees of all time in 2010?
LeBron James, Chris Bosh, Amar’e Stoudemire, Joe Johnson and Dwyane Wade all signed deals for over $100 million and that’s not even factoring in guys like Dirk Nowitzki, Carlos Boozer and Rudy Gay, who all cashed in big as well.
Then it finishes by saying it gives all teams a chance to compete for a championship.
What does this even mean?
Having a solid GM who knows how to put a team together and owners who are willing to spend money win championship teams.
Some, like Charlotte Bobcats’ owner Michael Jordan, have no place in the NBA and are the reason we have a lockout right now anyway.
A new CBA will just give them more money to line their pockets and their teams will still be just as bad.
The next slide tells us how the new CBA won’t reduce free-agent movement or affect Bird exceptions, markets for mid-level players and teams re-signing their own players.
None of these things were even a problem before the lockout. Pure propaganda.
After that, it shows a bunch of fancy charts and graphs that literally mean nothing to fans and just shows how the owners plan to reduce spending while earning more income.
It’s a joke the NBA felt the need to put this out and no one should be taking this ridiculous and biased slide show seriously.
