Week 10 Start 'Em, Sit 'Em: Andy Dalton and More Doomed Players to Bench

Richard LangfordNov 10, 2011

Andy Dalton is heading towards a rough rookie awakening this week as he takes on the Pittsburgh Steelers. If you are considering starting Dalton this week, don't. He is headed for a long day. He is not the only player that needs to make his way to your fantasy bench.

Dalton has been wildly impressive as a rookie this year, but he has not been facing the best defenses. The one D that he has faced that is comparable to the Steelers is the 49ers.

In that game he was 17/32 with 157 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions. He will have a similar stat line this week.

The Steelers are third in the NFL in passing yards allowed per game. The backbone of this defense is a stellar and diverse pass rush. This is a tough task for any veteran let alone a rookie.

Dalton will have a real learning experience in this one, but that is about the only positive he will take away.

Giants RB Ahmad Bradshaw

Opponent: 49ers

Ahmad Bradshaw is going to try and play through a broken bone in his foot. Tom Coughlin expects him to play this weekend, but then again he also expected him to practice on Wednesday, which according to NJ.com he didn't do.

Whether or not he is able to play for the Giants this weekend, he needs to hit the fantasy bench.

Few running backs have found success against the 49ers this year. They are first in rushing yards allowed per contest. They are also fourth in yards allowed per rush.

Those are rock solid numbers. But as good as they are, the Giants rushing numbers are worse.

The G-men are 30th in the NFL in yards per carry at 3.3. That number is not going to improve this week.

Colts WR Reggie Wayne

Opponent: Jaguars

Reggie Wayne's production has taken a big hit because the QB throwing him the ball is bad and getting worse.

Instead of getting better with playing time, Curtis Painter is getting worse. In fact, things got so bad for Painter that Dan Orlovsky went in during the fourth quarter of their last game.

In his last three games Wayne has averaged just four catches, and he was held under 40 yards in two of those games.

Things do not figure to get better for Wayne this week. The Jaguars have been playing rock solid pass defense this season. They are eighth in passing yards allowed per game. They are also ranked eighth by Football Outsiders in stopping opposing No. 1 receivers.

Sit Wayne for this game, and unless the Colts start getting some better QB play, it may be time to start considering cutting him all together.
