NFL Picks Week 8: Cincinnati Bengals Will Tame Seattle Seahawks' 12th Man

Scott L. HutchinsonOct 26, 2011

The Cincinnati Bengals enjoyed a week off last week, but they travel to Seattle this Sunday to take on the 2-4 Seahawks and their always fired-up fan base.

While the Seahawks have not looked particularly impressive this season, they always play better at home and could present Cincy with a serious challenge.

Still, despite the tough road matchup, the Bengals should come out of this one with a W.

Here's why...

Cincinnati D Will Shut Down Seattle Offense

1 of 4

Cincinnati boasts the No. 2 ranked defense in the NFL, while Seattle's offense is the league's second worst.

It's pretty easy math.

The Seahawks do not have many offensive weapons to begin with, and a midseason switch at the quarterback position has not helped their cause much either.

New starter Charlie Whitehurst managed to throw for just 97 yards against Cleveland last week in the 'Hawks 6-3 loss to the Browns.

Don't be surprised to see Cincinnati keep Seattle under double-digits for a second straight week.

Opportunity Is Knockin'

2 of 4

Starting Bengals' running back Cedric Benson is expected to serve his one-game suspension this week, so backup Bernard Scott will have a chance to make his first start of the 2011-12 season.

Scott, who is in his third NFL season after being drafted by the Bengals in 2009, has rushed for 705 yards and two touchdowns in his career. This week will without a doubt be Scott's greatest opportunity to showcase his skills.

While Seattle's defense is actually pretty solid, the Bengal O-line is too, so Scott should have a chance to rack up some serious yardage and lead Cincinnati to a tough road win.

Who's Going to Stop Mr. Green?

3 of 4

They may just be rookies, but Cincinnati quarterback Andy Dalton and wideout A.J. Green have already developed into one of the league's most dangerous quarterback-receiver duos.

In just six games, Green has recorded 29 receptions and four touchdowns, and he looks like he could be well on his way to earning a Pro Bowl invitation.

Dalton and Green have been able to connect for some explosive plays already this season, and they shouldn't have too much of a problem connecting for a few more against Seattle's mediocre pass defense.

Dalton Won't Be Fazed

4 of 4

Andy Dalton has a strong arm, but that is not his most impressive attribute.

Despite his inexperience, Dalton has looked incredibly poised all season long, leading the Bengals to several fourth quarter victories.

Seattle's rowdy fans will try their hardest to rattle the rookie, but Dalton should keep it together under pressure and get Cincinnati their fifth victory of the year.
