NBA Trade Speculation: 5 Trades That Make Too Much Sense

Joe BarnathanOct 25, 2011

Sometimes teams need to make a trade. Whether it's out of a specific need for a position, or there's a player on the team who just isn't right, trades are made every year.

And every once in a while, there comes an offer that just seems to make perfect sense for both teams. It doesn't happen too often, but when it does, you can be sure that the teams will work to make it happen.

Here are five scenarios that if offered, in my opinion, would go down.

Golden State Trades Monta Ellis to Denver for Andre Miller and Danilo Gallinari

1 of 5

Why does this trade make sense?

Right now the Golden State Warriors have an issue in their backcourt. They have two "shoot first" players who demand the ball. In this trade they move Monta Ellis and allow for Stephen Curry to develop with a great veteran Point Guard in Andre Miller. To top it off, the Warriors will also pick up Danilo Gallinari who will provide another offensive option.

For Denver, they get a franchise talent in Monta Ellis to build around. Every team needs a clear-cut first option, and Ellis can be that for the Nuggets.

Minnesota Timberwolves Trade Beasley and Millicic to Nets for Lopez and Outlaw

2 of 5

Why does this trade make sense?

The Timberwolves have too many players at the forward position and desperately need a center. By giving up Millicic and Beasley, they get Brook Lopez who would be a great pairing with Kevin Love. With the two of them up front, the Wolves present a daunting matchup for any defense. In addition to getting Lopez, the Wolves pick up a nice role player in Outlaw.

As for the Nets, they get a clear cut No. 2 option in Beasley. This guy has great potential and is a dynamic scorer who Deron Williams will enjoy playing with. With a guy like Williams feeding him the ball, Beasley could be an All-Star. And to fill in for the absence of Lopez, the Nets get Millicic as well.

Hornets Trade Emeka Okafor and Marco Belinelli to Sixers for Andre Iguodala

Why does this trade make sense?

It's no secret that the Sixers are looking to deal Iguodala. And Mr. Iguodala might be just the kind of player the Hornets are looking for to help convince Chris Paul to stay in New Orleans.

At the same time, the Sixers get back nice player in Okafor who they can pair with Brand up front and a nice shooter in Belinelli. With Jrue Holiday as their future point guard, he'll need options like Belinelli to help stretch the defense.

Clippers Trade Chris Kaman to Hawks for Josh Smith

4 of 5

This trade might truly make too much sense.

For starters the Clippers have DeAndre Jordan as their center for they future. The problem is that they still have a top notch player in Chris Kaman. So what do you do?

Trade away for another top talent.

Could you just imagine the athleticism the Clippers would have between Smith, Jordan and Blake Griffin?

At the same time, the Hawks have been desperate for a center for a while. Having Al Horford play out of position for another year just wouldn't make sense, especially if they can get a guy like Chris Kaman. Yes, they might be hesitant to give up Josh Smith, but not when they can get a guy back who will be able to handle any big man the team could run into during the playoffs.

Orlando Trades Dwight Howard to Heat for Chris Bosh and Udonis Haslem

5 of 5

Is this deal crazy?

Not really when you think about it.

The Magic get an All-Star power forward who is under contract for at least another three seasons and as many as five. They also ensure that they don't lose Howard for nothing next offseason. Not to mention that they will also get Udonis Haslem, who has proven that he can be very productive when given time.

As for the Heat? I don't think there's much mystery in why they would do this deal. Sure they lose a couple of talented bigs, but they also get back the best center in the game. Thought the team was good with Bosh? With Howard, the Heat might actually fulfill LeBron's prediction of multiple championships.
