Rams vs. Cowboys: 4 Things We Learned About the Rams in Their 34-7 Loss
The St. Louis Rams fell to 0-6 this Sunday with a loss to the Dallas Cowboys. It was another frustrating game for the football fans of St. Louis.
There were several clear facts following the game for the Rams. There was also a couple of promising possibilities to build on.
Here are four things we learned about the Rams from their 34-7 defeat at Dallas.
Sam Bradford Was Not the Reason for the Rams' Offensive Struggles
1 of 4Sam Bradford sat out the game against Dallas due to a high ankle sprain. Many fans have pointed to Bradford as a reason for the Rams' offensive struggles.
That is far from the truth.
The game on Sunday showed that the Rams are not better without Bradford and have many issues on the offensive side of the ball.
Backup quarterback A.J. Feeley threw for just 196 yards and an interception. He was also sacked five times. Bradford's absence obviously didn't prompt an explosion of offense for the Rams.
Bradford is one of the bright spots on the Rams' team and should be their quarterback for the long-term future without question.
Steven Jackson's Success Against the Cowboys Is a Good Sign
2 of 4Steven Jackson finished his game against the Cowboys with 70 yards rushing on 18 carries. Jackson also added a touchdown in the loss.
The Rams Run Defense Is the Biggest Reason They're 0-6
3 of 4The Rams run defense is by far the worst in professional football.
Coming into the game the Rams ranked 32nd in the NFL in rushing yards allowed at over 160 yards per game.
It went from bad to worse Sunday.
The Rams allowed backup Cowboy running back DeMarco Murray to rush for a Dallas team record 253 yards.
It was the worst performance of the season for the Rams. They looked depressingly bad. They allowed numerous big yardage plays including a 91-yard touchdown run by Murray in the first quarter.
This area must improve or the Rams will never win a game this season.
The Rams Should Hold Andrew Luck Ransom
4 of 4If things continue like they did on Sunday, the Rams may end up with the first pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. If that is the case, the Rams are in an enviable situation.
Unlike prior years, the new CBA in the NFL caps the amount of money the No. 1 pick can make. This does nothing but help St. Louis because numerous teams will be willing to move up and draft Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck.
The Rams could use the pick to trade for numerous players and picks to rebuild their franchise.
For those with long-term memories, think Herschel Walker trade from the Cowboys to the Vikings. A monster trade like that would definitely turn the tides of a franchise stuck in neutral.
