San Diego Chargers vs. New York Jets: 4 Adjustments New York Must Make
Well, that didn't go according to plan.
Despite a decent first half from Mark Sanchez and a solid performance from the backfield, the Jets find themselves in a 21-10 hole at halftime. Eleven points won't be easy to come by against this tough-nosed Chargers' defense, but it's not impossible. Here are four adjustments New York must make to come back and win this one.
1. Keep Mixing Up Play Calling: The Jets came out in the first half looking like a new team. We’ve seen an underhanded pass to Tomlinson, a screen to Plaxico, and a couple of play-action passes. If New York wants to keep San Diego on its heels, it must continue mixing things up.

2. Keep Pressuring Rivers: Philip Rivers has looked pretty uncomfortable in the pocket all game. He’s had Jets breathing down his neck since the first drive. Although Mathews and Tolbert have been great this season, San Diego’s offense starts with Rivers. You cut off the head, you kill the body.
3. Stop Antonio Gates: You knew this one was coming. Gates has been unhealthy all season, thanks to a nagging foot injury. But when he’s played, he’s been spectacular. New York has to find a way to stop Gates, whether it’s double coverage or safety help over the top.
4. Target Santonio Holmes: Plaxico Burress has been targeted six times in the first half. Seriously. And what does he have to show for it? Two catches. Ouch. Holmes, on the other hand, has two catches on two targets, and had a touchdown taken away thanks to a Nick Mangold holding penalty. New York has to do a better job of getting Santonio Holmes involved. He’s been open, and he’s definitely motivated today.
