Week 7 Start 'Em, Sit 'Em: 10 FFB Weaklings You Must Gamble on and Start

Brian DezelskeOct 18, 2011

Tom Brady, LeSean McCoy, Wes Welker and Fred Jackson are just a few of the big-time fantasy studs that are taking seats in Week 7.

If you’re like me and have both McCoy and Jackson on your squad, you’re in a world of trouble.

Well no need to fret—there are a handful of waiver-wire pickups that can provide enough of a spark to get you through a tough bye-week spell.

Jackie Battle: RB, Kansas City Chiefs

1 of 10

Thomas Jones and Dexter McCluster haven’t been able to shoulder the load through the first four weeks of the season, allowing for Jackie Battle to get his opportunity.

Battle made the most of it—going for 119 yards on 19 carries. He’s worthy of a flex-play option and even a low-end RB2 this week, as he’s facing the Oakland Raiders who have allowed 4.9 yards per carry.

Greg Little: WR, Cleveland Browns

2 of 10

This past week Little had the first start of his career and he didn’t disappoint, hauling in six catches for 72 yards while being targeted 12 times—by far the most of any Browns receiver.

The Browns should see a big game from Little, whose facing a Seattle Seahawks defense that just lost Cornerback Marcus Trufant for the season.

He has great value as a flex-option, as the Seahawks are giving up an average of 39 points a week to receivers and Little should reap those benefits this week.

Matt Hasselbeck: QB, Tennessee Titans

3 of 10

The Tennessee Titans have been quite a surprise this season and it has much to do with the play of Matt Hasselbeck.

Many thought his fantasy days were over with the loss of Kenny Britt, but it’s been quite the contrary. Since Britt’s season-ending injury, Hasselbeck has averaged 16 points per game and is owned in just 51 percent of ESPN leagues.

This is a guy who can be more than just a bye-week fill in if you’re struggling at the quarterback position— the rest of the Titans' schedule is very favorable from here on out.

Tim Tebow: QB, Denver Bronocos

4 of 10

Only owned in 40 percent of ESPN leagues, Tim Tebow is a must own after being named the Broncos starter.

None of us are sure whether or not Tebow can play in the NFL, but what we do know is that he produces fantasy points. In three games as a starter in 2010, Tebow averaged 24 points per game—third among quarterbacks during that span.

James Jones: WR, Green Bay Packers

5 of 10

The Green Bay Packer wideout has hit pay-dirt three weeks in a row, while averaging 13 points per game during that span.

This week he faces a Minnesota Vikings defense that can’t cover anyone in the secondary—oh, and did I mention that he has Aaron Rodgers throwing him the ball.

He’s still available in 35 percent of ESPN leagues, so go out and snag him and insert him into your lineup.

Arrelious Benn: WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

6 of 10

Benn seems to have emerged as a pseudo-No.1 receiver for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, along with Mike Williams.

His targets continue to increase each week—getting six against the New Orleans Saints, along with a 65-yard touchdown catch.

Josh Freeman has to get the ball to someone and he’s simply not getting it to Williams. Benn has been the beneficiary.

He’s available in almost every league, so landing him on your squad shouldn’t be too tough.

Darrius Heyward-Bey: WR, Oakland Raiders

7 of 10

Don’t worry about Kyle Boller hurting Darrius Heyward Bey’s fantasy value. With Boller in last week’s game, DHB had four catches for 52 yards and ended up with six catches for 82 yards.

Boller and DHB have a great matchup this week in the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs have allowed 12 touchdowns through five games—good for last in the NFL.

Montario Hardesty: RB, Cleveland Browns

8 of 10

Montario Hardesty immediately becomes a need on all rosters with the injury to Peyton Hillis.

He should garner upwards of 25 touches this week against the Seattle Seahawks and could make a nice gap-filler for your running back woes.

Matt Cassel: QB, Kansas City Chiefs

9 of 10

The Kansas City Chiefs offense seems to have hit their stride and Cassel is the main reason for it.

Cassel is coming off a four-touchdown performance and now he faces an Oakland Raiders defense that has allowed at least two touchdowns in every game with the exception of Week 1.

He is still available in about 40 percent of all ESPN leagues and has a favorable matchup this week for a solid performance.

DeMarco Murray: RB, Dallas Cowboys

10 of 10

DeMarco Murray vaults into the starting lineup (first time in his career) with the injury to Felix Jones. He also gets to showcase his skills against the St. Louis Rams who are in complete disarray.

This game has all the makings of a blowout, making it a tailor-made game for the Cowboys rookie. Look for the Cowboys to grind out the clock with a big second-half lead and Murray will be the main man.
