3 Reasons the Philadelphia Eagles Are Heating Up and Will Contend in NFC East

Ryan AlfieriOct 16, 2011

The Eagles finally got their first win since Week 1, getting them back to 2-4. While they still have a lot of work to do to try and salvage their season, there are plenty of reasons to think that the Eagles just might come close to the expectations that were set this season.

This team still has a lot of talent, and at some point, one has to assume that the coaches will finally figure out the right formula to harness their immense talent.

Here are the reasons why the Eagles will still contend for divisional supremacy.

Turnovers

1 of 3

Turnovers plagued the Eagles' losses. Whether is was Maclin's fumble on the final play against he 49ers or the tipped passes against the Bills, the Eagles haven't had much luck in this department.

This Sunday was a totally different story. They got Rex Grossman to toss so many picks that he was eventually benched for John Beck. If the Eagles offense gets short field position, they can really start to rack up points.

The Return of Jason Peters

2 of 3

The inconsistent Eagle offensive line is improving each week, but if they can get star left tackle Jason Peter back from his hamstring injury soon, this line can improve in a hurry.

If the Eagles' line can be anything near average, this offense is going to be very dangerous.

Proper Use of Nnamdi Asomugha

3 of 3

For the first few weeks, Juan Castillo has tried to get too cute with the use of his defensive backs. His biggest mistake was putting star cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha in zone coverage, which made him look like an average player.

Now that he is back to playing more man-to-man coverage, the Eagles can use his shutdown abilities to minimize the field.
