NFL Predictions Week 6: Matt Forte and the 3 RBs Who Will Get Major Carries

Chris TrapassoOct 14, 2011

The NFL is as pass-happy as ever, with spread offenses becoming the new norm.

However, a good running back can still go a long way in a team's success.

Just look how Fred Jackson and Darren McFadden have injected new life to their respective teams. Look how Adrian Peterson's touchdown explosion in the first half against the Cardinals led to the Vikings' first win.

Which backs will get a lot of carries in Week 6?

Matt Forte, Chicago Bears

Matt Forte is the life-force of the Chicago Bears offense.

In fact, he leads all running backs with 785 total yards from scrimmage. While he faces the fourth-ranked defense this week, the offensive line is in pass-protecting shambles. Make no mistake, Mike Martz will look to get Forte established early.

On average, he has carried the ball 23.5 times in his last two games as Chicago has shifted their offensive onus to running the football.

Not only will Forte carry 20-plus times in this one—which by today's standards is a lot—he'll get close to 30 touches.

Ahmad Bradshaw, New York Giants

The New York Giants want to be a running football team, able to gain yards on the ground to set up the play-action pass for Eli Manning

So far this season, they've been forced to turn into a spread-'em-out, pass-first team, due to their inconsistent run game.

Against the Bills' 29th-ranked run defense, expect Bradshaw to see a lot of touches, especially with Brandon Jacobs likely to be out with a knee injury.

We are looking for a shootout in his one.

While neither offense should have problem scoring, we'll see more running than you expect.

Michael Turner, Atlanta Falcons

When Turner is involved in the offense, the Falcons are an extremely tough team to beat. When they neglect their star runner, you begin to see why they've started the 2011 season 2-3.

Against the Packers last week, Atlanta rushed with Turner on 10 occasions in their opening two drives. He then only received six carries throughout the rest of the game.

That can't happen anymore and I don't think it will.

The Panthers are the 27th-ranked run defense in the league, allowing 135.2 yards on the ground per game.

Although their secondary isn't outstanding either, expect Turner to be a more integral part of the offense this week.
