NFL Trade Speculation: Broncos Would Be Crazy to Trade Dawkins, D.J. Williams
Right now it's all just speculation from Adam Schefter's segment on SportsCenter today, but regardless, let's see how much sense this trade would make for Denver, if any with the Philadelphia Eagles.
For starters, trading away Brian Dawkins wouldn't be too smart as he's arguably their best defensive player and he's also 38 years old.
And although Dawkins played all those years in Philly, they won't be putting up much as his age is the sole factor, no matter how good he may be.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Plus, they drafted safety Jaiquawn Jarrett out of Temple, last spring so they are set for the future anyway.
Also, it's not like like baseball where relief pitchers can last until their mid-40s, Dawkins loves to hit and his body is wearing down, whether his non-verbals show us anything or not, because that's what playing the game does to you physically.
In addition, Dawkins is there to help rookie safety Rahim Moore get acclimated to playing in the NFL.
It's one thing to draft a safety and hope that he learns on his own, and there have been some who've proved to do so, but if you have a veteran like Dawkins who can still play, why not keep him around until he retires?
This way, you get everything and more from the veteran and the youngster can hit the ground running by picking up where the vet left off.
Plus, for as bad as the Broncos' defense appears right now, they have improved greatly since 2010.
However, they still need all the help they can get and Brian Dawkins is imperative to their future success, even after he retires (whenever that may be).
As for D.J. Williams, he has solid experience and is definitely one of the better defenders for the Orange Crush.
Once rookie Von Miller becomes a more established OLB, and Elvis Dumervil gets back to normal, Denver's defense will be very solid.
But, if they happen to trade away Williams, you're then losing an experienced team leader and a guy who knows the defensive system, as he's been there since 2004.
It's not so much that the Broncos can't improve off trading away both players, but they benefit so much more with Dawkins and Williams.
Also, you risk being setback a few years if you trade away some of your more experienced players, and rebuilding a defense when your in the process of rebuilding isn't a good thing, nor is it what Denver needs right now.
After 2010 they needed to improve and they did, but taking the risk of two steps back isn't going to guarantee you take three-to-five steps forward the following season.
Especially the way 2011 is headed anyway, where it appears Denver may end up with a Top 10 pick once again.
