Kyle VassaloOct 13, 2011

Tired of the Michael Vick saga? Philip Rivers not who you thought he would be? Looking for a guy to fill in while your superstar quarterback is on a bye week?

Not to worry. There are plenty of guys who are probably lingering on your waiver wire who can rescue your team from defeat.

Here are a few waiver-wire gems worth gambling on if you're in a QB bind.

Jason Campbell, Oakland Raiders

Darren McFadden makes life easy for Jason Campbell. The Raiders signal-caller has typically been seen as a game manager, but he's already surpassed the 300-yard mark twice this season. With the potential to put up huge yardage and a couple of touchdowns, Campbell has the potential to blow up on any given week.

Week 6 is that sort of a week. Don't be put off by the Browns' No. 4 pass defense. They've faced the Bengals, Dolphins, Colts and a Titans offense that was missing Kenny Britt. After Run DMC carves up the Browns, Campbell will be able to expose their pass defense for what it really is.

Alex Smith, San Francisco 49ers

Alex Smith has the third-highest quarterback rating in the NFL and has produced seven touchdowns in his last four games.

It's clear Smith and the 49ers are growing more comfortable in the offense. Jim Harbaugh has Smith playing in an offense that adheres to his abilities and let's him play high-percentage football.

The Lions have an overrated pass-rush. Though ferocious, their front has produced 12 sacks, which isn't any better than San Francisco's.

Vernon Davis, Delanie Walker, Kendall Hunter and Frank Gore provide reliable targets that Smith can get the ball to when he feels the heat. He's worth starting this week.

Andy Dalton, Cincinnati Bengals

Andy Dalton is playing the Colts this week. The Colts have allowed over 250 yards through the air on average through their first five games. What's more, Matt Cassel threw for 257 yards and four touchdowns against them last week.

It's not all about Indy, though. Some are down on Dalton because he's thrown five picks in his last three games. Even so, he's still thrown more touchdowns than interceptions, and the Dalton to A.J. Green connection has proven it's here to stay.
