Fantasy Football Week 6: Matt Forte and 4 Players You Must Sit
To win real football games, tough decisions have to be made.
To win fake football games, tough decisions have to be made, but there just not nearly as extreme.
Matchups are virtually everything when it comes to fake football, except for the select few players who dominate regardless.
So with that in mind, here are four players to sit in Week 6.
Matt Forte: RB, Bears (vs Minnesota)
1 of 4Through the first three games this season Bears' RB Matt Forte had only compiled 120 yards on 35 carries.
However, he exploded in Weeks 4 and 5 against the Carolina Panthers and Detroit Lions for 321 yards on 47 carries.
He also has caught 30 balls for 345 yards, but has only scored two total TDs.
This week, Forte is a tough start because even though the Minnesota Vikings are 1-4, they have the No. 5 ranked rush defense, but only a No. 25 ranked pass defense.
Therefore, expect offensive coordinator Mike Martz to give Jay Cutler the green light this week as he's yet to prove anything thus far in 2011.
Also, Minnesota is going to be putting at least seven-to-eight in the box each snap to slow Forte, as well as to prevent him from gaining any receiving yards.
The Vikings know if they stop Forte, forcing Cutler to beat them gives Minnesota that much better of a chance at winning.
Brandon Marshall: WR, Dolphins (at NY Jets)
2 of 422 receptions for 313 yards and only one TD are the numbers for Miami's best playmaker in WR Brandon Marshall, through four games.
Now, he has to get targets from backup QB Matt Moore with starter Chad Henne out, and Miami plays the New York Jets this week who are desperate for a W.
In addition, the Jets have the No. 5 ranked pass defense, but only the No. 26 ranked rush defense.
So, expect Miami to run the ball quite a bit regardless of what defense the Jets are in.
Marshall's going to be blanketed by New York's suffocating secondary—Jim Leonhard, Darrelle Revis, Antonio Cromartie—thus limiting his targets, receptions and yards to a minimum.
Reggie Wayne: WR, Colts (at Cincinnati)
3 of 4The Cincinnati Bengals rank No. 3 in pass defense and No. 7 in rush defense, whereas the Colts rank No. 25 in passing offense and No. 30 in rushing offense.
WR Reggie Wayne leads Indy with 22 receptions on 46 targets, as well as getting 18 first-downs, but he only has one TD.
Obviously life would be easier with Peyton Manning under center, but make no mistake about it, this Cincinnati defense is solid and has the ability to shut any offense down.
That being said, Wayne will be lucky to compile 60 yards on five catches, at best, against this defense.
If you don't have a better matchup than Wayne with your current lineup, then you've got to pick up a free agent or try and make a trade.
Ahmad Bradshaw: RB, Giants (vs Buffalo)
4 of 4Even though the Buffalo Bills have a rather vulnerable defense, whether it's against the rush or pass, the New York Giants only rank No. 28 in rushing offense.
RB Ahmad Bradshaw is their best Brahma Bull, but no matter how much success New York has on the ground this week, it's not going to be enough to keep up with the fast-paced Bills' offense.
In turn, Eli Manning needs to really step it up and shoot some lasers around, because otherwise the Bills are going to runaway with the game.
Bradshaw gets his touches, but it's nowhere near what he's done in the past because along with having a scoring offense, the Buffalo defense knows how to force turnovers.
Not saying that Ahmad is going to cough it up, but for as scrappy as the Bills' defense is, he's going to be shut-down one way or another.
