NFL Picks Week 6: Pittsburgh Steelers and 3 Teams Guaranteed to Win

Andrea HangstOct 12, 2011

Nothing is a given in the NFL, but sometimes a matchup between two teams presents itself that is a stone-cold lock. There are three such contests lined up for Week 6.

The Pittsburgh Steelers host the Jacksonville Jaguars this Sunday, their second AFC South opponent in as many weeks. The team showed flashes of a return to dominant form against the Tennessee Titans last Sunday, and they are hoping the momentum continues against the 31st-ranked Jaguars.

The Steelers' success this week will hinge upon their defense's ability to stop running back Maurice Jones-Drew. Once he is neutralized, a Pittsburgh victory is practically guaranteed.

There is one team worse than the Jaguars, the St. Louis Rams, and this Sunday they travel to Green Bay to take on the undefeated Packers. This is clearly the mismatch of the week, and it's hard to say that St. Louis has any chance to rattle the defending Super Bowl champions.

On offense and defense, the Rams have not accomplished much. They've scored just 46 points in four games, while allowing 113, which does not bode well against one of the highest-scoring offenses in the league. Rams to the slaughter, indeed.

In terms of high-scoring offenses, just two rank above the Packers, and one of them—the Buffalo Bills—will take full advantage of a declining New York Giants squad this Sunday.

The Giants can neither run the ball nor stop the run, which means that top-five Bills running back Fred Jackson is due to have yet another big game.

New York will have to once again lean on the arm of quarterback Eli Manning to lead the offense, but if that happens, they could draw Buffalo into a shootout, not an advisable strategy for a Giants squad that faltered last week by relying on the pass.

But the main issue that stung the Giants in Week 5 were the little things: penalties, general mistakes and a lack of discipline snowballed into a major team collapse. Certainly, some of these things will improve over the course of a week, but others will take more time.

Buffalo will be looking for these errors and will capitalize upon them accordingly. The Giants are just as capable of beating themselves as the Bills are, and it's going to be a major test for the team this Sunday, one they aren't likely to pass.
