NBA 2K12 Shows Off New NBA Jerseys, Some Sweet, Some Hideous

Eric BallOct 11, 2011

With the lockout denying NBA fans of watching actual players, we are left with the virtual version.

NBA2K12, which was released last week, has gotten spectacular reviews because of its killer combination of superb game play, crystal clear graphics, realistic player ratings and great game physics.

With a week to unlock all of the goodies the game offers, thescore.com has unearthed some pictures of the alternate uniforms that are in the game.

Even better, according to the site, these jerseys are going to be unveiled in actual games this season…assuming we have one.  Here’s a sneak peek at the new uniforms to be found in the game and in your favorite NBA arena.

Memphis Grizzles and Miami Heat

The Heat alternative uniform (right) is very boring. It’s mostly dark with the stripes on the side.

Nothing special.

But the Grizzles uniforms (left) are wacky.

It looks nothing like their traditional unis; in fact, it’s completely different. If anything, it looks like the old Seattle Supersonics colors.

Too bad Gary Payton isn’t walking through that door.

I like it, though…it’s unique and not cluttered. The letters and numbers outlined in green are a nice touch as well.

Sacramento Kings

Love the Kings' old-school look.

The cursive lettering with the long line in the “S” that underlines the jersey is a great touch. The shorts are just as cool with the purple, white and black short combination.

The blue-laced shoes are a great way to complete the uniform.

Anything to forget about the current team. Right, Kings fans?

Charlotte Bobcats

Yuck. What the heck is going on?

This is the worst of the bunch. The team really doesn’t have much history, and that’s evident in their generic, run of the mill red, white and blue duds that are plain jane. The shorts are nothing special with just a simple red stripe on the side.

Yawn.

It’s hard to make a complete judgment on this one since you can see the front of the jerseys, but something tells me the front isn’t any better.

Los Angeles Clippers

The Clippers never look very good on the court, but they sure will be playing in style.

Blake Griffin will be flying high in style in the new baby blue unis that have the stars and stripes on the side.

I don’t exactly consider owner Donald Sterling to be a symbol for America, but he was smart to allow these jerseys to be worn.

Toronto Raptors and New Jersey Nets

5 of 5

The Raptors have the wildest unis by FAR.

The camouflage look has never been done in the NBA.

Letting a team with little buzz around the country do it…why not.

Then again, now fans can’t see the players on the court even if they wanted to. Maybe this is what the Raptors need to beat teams.

As for the Nets (I’m assuming it’s the Nets because the Knicks don’t have a No. 21 and the Nets have Travis Outlaw), what are they thinking?

They are going to wear a jersey with their new city on the front while still playing in New Jersey?

How in the world are loyal Net fans (all eight of you) supposed to root for a team that is blatantly reminding them that their city and arena weren’t good enough?

That’s as big a slap in the face as you can give to a city in the NBA.

Congrats.
