NFL Trade Rumors: 6 Coaches Who Could Save Their Jobs With Big Trade
NFL trade rumors for the 2011 season are starting to heat up. However, some of these deals can affect the coaches of teams that are in the cellars of their respective divisions. These teams include the 0-5 Indianapolis Colts, the 1-4 Jacksonville Jaguars, the 0-4 St. Louis Rams, the 1-4 "Dream Team" Philadelphia Eagles, the 2-3 Kansas City Chiefs, and the 0-4 Miami Dolphins.
All of these teams' coaches need to get a deal done fast or else their jobs or on the line. Trades are key to get these coaches back into the playoff picture somehow. Some of these clubs just need a trade to make it above .500.
Todd Haley, Kansas City Chiefs
1 of 6According to Jeffri Chadiha of espn.com, Kansas City Chiefs coach, Todd Haley, is on the brink of losing his coaching job if nothing drastic changes in the next couple of weeks.
Haley is the most surprising coach on my list mainly because his team has the best record out of the six teams since he is 2-3. He defeated the Indianapolis Colts this past week and now has a little breathing room, but probably not for long.
Kansas City needs help on the defensive end and they need Matt Cassel to step it up or expect Haley to lose his job in the next couple weeks.
Jim Caldwell, Indianapolis Colts
2 of 6No one expected to hear Jim Caldwell's name on the list once the season began, but now since he is 0-5 it seems as if his tenure is up.
According to Joel Thorman of sbnation.com, he has made some "poor coaching decisions." These conditions have had the front office watch him more sternly and now he needs to somehow find a quarterback to save his job.
Yes, I know that their star quarterback, Peyton Manning, is hurt for most of the year, but that is just an excuse to do bad.
Caldwell needs to make better decisions as a coach and that includes finding a quarterback to trade for so that the Colts can at least win a few games before Manning returns.
Jack Del Rio, Jacksonville Jaguars
3 of 6The Jaguars are having trouble with their starting quarterback position and now Blaine Gabbert is the future of the Jaguars offense.
According to Jeffri Chadiha of espn.com, Del Rio should not have had his job for some time now. He is 21-30 over the past four years and is now only 1-4 in 2011.
Del Rio needs some help at wide receiver and a trade needs to happen in order for Gabbert to get some better targets. Sure he can use Maurice Jones-Drew as both a rusher and a wideout, but that can only take them so far.
Steve Spagnuolo, St. Louis Rams
4 of 6According to Joel Thorman of sbnation.com, Steve Spagnuolo has a very short leash with his 0-4 start.
The St. Louis Rams had very high expectations after winning seven games in 2010 and this 0-4 start is not what they ordered for the 2011 season.
Quarterback Sam Bradford has not been the total stud that he could be and the Rams need help on defense and with receivers.
If there is not a blockbuster deal soon for the Rams, then expect to see Spagnuolo searching for a job somewhere else before the season is over.
Andy Reid, Philadelphia Eagles
5 of 6Another surprising name on this list is Andy Reid. According to Ralph Vacchiano of athlonsports.com, Andy Reid is on the hot seat because "the Dream Team has been a colossal disappointment so far, and if they go down in flames they both may decide to part ways."
The Philadelphia Eagles need just a small trade to help with their offensive line because Michael Vick just keeps getting hit. He limps to the line of scrimmage or off the field several times each game and if he is hurt, then the Eagles can't come up with huge wins.
Tony Sparano, Miami Dolphins
6 of 6Tony Sparano almost lost his job before the season started and is now 0-4 with only 69 points scored in the four games.
According to Ralph Vacchiano of athlonsports.com, Sparano is definitely cooking on the hot seat especially since his starting quarterback, Chad Henne, is out for the season.
This awful start could give the Dolphins a much needed first pick of the 2012 draft and who knows if that could be enough to catapult the struggling Dolphins past the New England Patriots, the New York Jets, and now even the Buffalo Bills into the playoffs.
Reggie Bush has not panned out for the Dolphins and the Dolphins need to trade for a running back or I expect Sparano to long gone before November.
