Tim Tebow: 5 Reasons Denver Broncos Must Start QB for Rest of Season
Tim Tebow isn't necessarily everyone's favorite quarterback, but he should be starting from here on out for the Denver Broncos.
Tebow replaced Orton in the second half of Sunday's game against the San Diego Chargers and led a decent comeback.
Although the Broncos lost the game, Tebow made some exciting plays.
He isn't the best quarterback in the league and he never will be, but he has one important thing working in his favor right now.
He's not Kyle Orton.
Here's a look at five reasons why Tebow should get the starting nod over Kyle Orton after the team's bye week.
The Broncos Are 1-4
1 of 5Right now, the odds of the Denver Broncos catching either the 4-1 San Diego Chargers or the 3-2 Oakland Raiders are incredibly small.
It sounds like giving up, but Kyle Orton isn't giving this team much of a chance to win right now.
Why not see if Tebow can hold his own against tough competition, as opposed to throwing him in at the end of last season when a lot of teams' fates are already set?
As it is right now, the Broncos have nowhere to go but up, so give Tebow a go. It's experimentation time.
Kyle Orton Is Not a Good Quarterback
2 of 5In four-and-a-half games, Kyle Orton has completed 58 percent of his passes for 979 yards and eight touchdowns.
The 58 percent completion rate isn't a beautiful number, and 196 yards per game just isn't getting it done. The one stat that stands out, however, is Orton's seven interceptions.
That's worst in the league. If he played the second half of Sunday's game, it's likely he would have more.
He's just not getting it done right now.
Tim Tebow Is an Exciting Player
3 of 5Love him or hate him, Tim Tebow is an exciting player to watch.
Kyle Orton is not.
Tebow opens up a lot of different playbook options for coach John Fox. He's athletically gifted for a QB, incredibly tough to bring down in the backfield and has an ability to get fans out of their seats.
His lack of ability to throw the ball downfield is obvious but he just makes plays. Just watch his 12-yard touchdown run from yesterday. If he doesn't find the open receiver, chances are he'll gain some yards.
Or, you know, throw an interception. But don't worry about that.
Maybe most importantly, Tebow will keep ticket sales up in Denver.
John Fox Shouldn't Turn into a Flip-Flopper
4 of 5John Fox has already made his decision. When he decided to put in Tim Tebow in the second half on Sunday he officially made Tebow the starter.
Fox has already shown he has no confidence in Orton. There's no going back to him now.
Inversely, he's also shown that he has some faith in Tebow. If he went back on his decision after just one half of play, it would be clear that he doesn't trust the second-year QB from Florida.
Also, if he goes back to Orton, an argument can be made that he just used Tebow yesterday to make fans happy. You know what they say about that: If you listen to the fans, you'll soon be sitting with the fans.
Don't go back on your decisions Mr. Fox. That shows you don't really know what you're doing and it will make you a very unpopular man.
Suck for Luck
5 of 5I see it this way.
You already know what you're getting with Kyle Orton. You can stick with him as your quarterback, win three or four more games, fail to make the playoffs and get a draft pick somewhere around No. 10.
Or, you can go with Tim Tebow.
Worst-case scenario, Tebow is horrible and you find out he's not part of the future plans. If he does turn out to be horrible, there's a good chance you don't win many more games and get a legitimate shot at Stanford QB Andrew Luck.
Best-case scenario, Tebow shows he can lead this team and establishes himself as the QB of the next few years.
When Andrew Luck is the worst-case scenario, you do it.
