Tim Tebow And 6 NFL Quarterbacks You Want Under Center With Game On the Line
A quarterback's one shining moment is when he leads his team to victory with the game coming down to the wire.
The Denver Broncos took out Kyle Orton and put in Tim Tebow to help bring the Denver Broncos back in the game against the San Diego Chargers.
The Broncos put themselves in a position to steal a win from the Chargers after replacing Orton with Tebow, inspiring us to put together a list of eight quarterbacks you want with the game on the line.
Let me know what you think.
Tim Tebow
1 of 7The Broncos took out Orton after going six for 13 on passing as he threw for 34 yards and one interception.
John Fox and the Broncos coaching staff decided to put in Tebow, who goes four of 10 passing for 79 passing yards and threw a touchdown pass to Knowshon Moreno.
Tebow also scrambled six times for 38 yards and earned a touchdown on the ground.
After being down 26-10, Tebow picked up his team and gave them an opportunity to win with one second remaining in the game.
Tebow, threw a pass in the end zone, but it was incomplete as the Broncos fell to their division rivals, 29-24.
Although Tebow could not lead his team to a strong finish, he brought back a lot of flashbacks of his days in Florida. He has only played in 12 games, but has only started three in his short career.
Tebow will have other opportunities to prove himself when the game is on the line. Hopefully in 20 years, we can look back and consider Tebow one of the most clutch quarterbacks in NFL history.
Johnny Unitas
2 of 7Johnny Unitas is known as the inventor of the two-minute offense and a key member of the historic “Greatest Game Ever Played” moment.
In the 1958 NFL Championship Game, the Baltimore Colts and New York Giants played in the first ever overtime game in NFL playoff history.
Unitas led his Colts in overtime, calling all 13 plays on an 80-yard drive to eventually win the championship as Alan Ameche scored a one-yard touchdown run to defeat the Ravens, 23-17.
Unitas is known as one of the most clutch players among all players from his generation and is responsible for bringing a lot of excitement to the game of football.
Joe Montana
3 of 7Joe Montana is arguably one of the best players to every put on pads and cleats and play the game of football.
Montana’s accomplishments include four Super Bowl rings and eight Pro Bowl appearances.
Montana led the San Francisco 49ers to the Super Bowl during the 1988-89 season.
The 49ers met the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl XXIII. While Montana was part of many close games in his career, none were closer than this game with everything on the line.
Down by three, Montana put together an 11-play, 92-yard drive to win the Super Bowl.
After being quiet game long, Montana lit up the offense and threw a touchdown pass to Jerry Rice and John Taylor in the fourth quarter to help lift his team over the Bengals.
Peyton Manning
4 of 7Peyton Manning has not been perfect when the game is on the line. However, he has brought his team from behind and puts them in a position to win.
Rewind to 2005, Week 6. The Monday Night Football game against the St. Louis Rams is a great example of who Manning is.
Manning and the undefeated Colts were trailing 17-0 to the 2-3 Rams at the end of the first quarter.
He told his teammates on the sideline that the score was still 0-0 and the game is far from over.
Manning quickly got his team back in the game and helped the Colts remain undefeated by defeating the Rams, 45-28.
But a bigger game everyone remembers is the 2007 AFC Championship game against the New England Patriots.
Manning and the Colts were trailing 21-6 at halftime. He fired his players up in the second half to help the Colts make a comeback and win the AFC, 38-34. Manning went on to eventually pick up his first and only Super Bowl ring.
Ben Roethlisberger
5 of 7Ben Roethlisberger has accomplished a lot in his young career.
Before turning 29-years-old, Roethlisberger led the Pittsburgh Steelers to three Super Bowls, winning two of them.
One big moment for Roethlisberger came in 2009 when the Steelers took on the surprising Arizona Cardinals in Super Bowl XLIII.
In the fourth quarter, Kurt Warner found Larry Fitzgerald for a 64-yard touchdown pass on a two-play drive to take a 23-20 lead with 2:37 to go in the game.
Roethlisberger brought his team to the six-yard line with less than a minute to go in the big game.
He found Santonio Holmes near the side of the end zone on a perfect pass to take the lead and eventually bring Pittsburgh its sixth Super Bowl trophy.
Tom Brady
6 of 7Tom Brady is one of the league's best and accomplished a lot for the New England Patriots in a short amount of time.
While Adam Vinatieri kicked game winning field goals in three Super Bowls, it would not have happened with Brady's leadership.
Brady brought his team within field goal range to help the Patriots win their first three Super Bowls.
In Super Bowl XXXVI Brady completed a 23-yard pass to Troy Brown and followed it up with a six-yard completion to Jermaine Wiggins to place the ball at the Rams 30-yard line.
On the final play of the Super Bow, Vinatieri kicked the game-winning field goal to give the Patriots their first every Super Bowl trophy, 20-17.
Brady followed up with similar fourth quarter finishes in Super Bowl XXXVIII to beat the Carolina Panthers, 32-29 and Super Bowl XXXIX to beat the Philadelphia Eagles, 24-21.
Brett Favre
7 of 7No player was more clutch in the fourth quarter than Brett Favre.
It is hard to pick one key moment in his career in which he shined in the fourth quarter. Favre has 30 fourth quarter comebacks and 45 game-winning drives in his career.
In recent memory, 2007 was a magical year for Favre.
On Monday Night Football, Favre and the Packers stunned the Denver Broncos on the road in overtime with one pass.
On the first play after the opening kickoff of the overtime period, Favre found Greg Jennings on an 82-yard bomb to win the game.
