Fantasy Football Week 6: 6 Players We Regret Drafting

Chris CortesOct 9, 2011

Fantasy football can often become a crap shoot.  Despite all the projections, stats, research and rumors you can pull up on your player before you draft him, you can never predict who will get injured, who will have a down year or who will surprise everyone and become a breakout star.

For now, we will take a look at the ones who have not lived up to the expectations of greatness placed upon them this season.  These are the fantasy duds.

Chad Ochocinco

1 of 6

Nine catches, 136 yards.

There was a day when Chad Ochocinco could get these numbers in a game, but unfortunately, these are his stats for the season.  While Ochocinco is no longer an elite receiver, I fully expected being in an offense with an elite quarterback like Tom Brady would have helped his fantasy value.

Instead, Ochocinco has been a headache for the Pats while Wes Welker has been a fantasy stud.  If Ochocinco can get his head on straight and take advantage of defenses keying in on Welker, he can have a good week and make fantasy owners not regret taking him.

Percy Harvin

2 of 6

Percy Harvin has always been an explosive athlete with huge upside, and it seems like we’ve been waiting for him to be the threat he was at Florida. The addition of Donovan McNabb was supposed to bolster the passing game, but Harvin does not have a receiving touchdown yet.

Adrian Peterson just had a strong game against the Arizona Cardinals, and establishing Peterson in the running game will hopefully open up things for Harvin in the passing game.

Eagles Defense/Special Teams

And now we have the beloved "Dream Team."  The Eagles spent a lot of money picking up free agents and extending Michael Vick;s contract and fully expected to be an elite NFL team.

While picking up Nnamdi Asomugha was supposed to make Philadelphia’s defense elite, the rushing defense has been appalling, as only St. Louis and Carolina have given up more yards on the ground.  Due to Philly’s weak linebacker corps, there’s little hope the Eagles will be able to turn this around on the defensive end.

Dallas Clark

4 of 6

In Peyton Manning’s offense, Dallas Clark is a valuable commodity and can have great fantasy value.  He put up 885 yards and seven TDs last year and was the No. 5-ranked tight end in ESPN’s preseason rankings.  For any fantasy team, he would have been a great option at tight end.

However, in the Kerry Collins/Curtis Painter regime, he has not had more than 50 yards in a game and has only had one touchdown.  This past week against Kansas City, he registered zero fantasy points, catching one ball for seven yards.

With Manning likely out for the year, Clark's fantasy value may stay at rock bottom.

Chris Johnson

5 of 6

Chris Johnson had a highly publicized holdout at the beginning of the season where he assured the media and fans that he was one of the top playmakers in the NFL and deserved to be paid as one. However, Johnson has not played as one of the game's top playmakers.

This former 2,000-yard back has only had one touchdown all year and only one 100-plus yard rushing game (versus Cleveland last week).  Johnson was ranked the preseason No. 2 running back in ESPN leagues and, so far, has been a grave disappointment.

Jamaal Charles

6 of 6

Jamaal Charles was ranked the preseason No. 3 running back in ESPN leagues and has just come off back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons.  Being ranked this high, Charles was thought to be someone who could anchor your fantasy team this year.

Most fantasy owners spent a top-10 pick on him and must have been devastated to see him go down with a torn ACL in Week 2.  With the rest of these players on this list, there’s the hope that they will turn it around.  For owners of Charles, let’s just hope they were able to pick up a replacement
