Philadelphia Eagles: Winners and Losers from the Eagles' Loss to the Bills
In a word, the Philadelphia Eagles have become unwatchable. There were so many mistakes in their fourth straight loss, one has to question how long owner Jeffrey Lurie can tolerate this before some heads start to roll.
The entire game, maybe the entire Eagles' season, was best illustrated on the play with 1:23 left in the game. The ushers in the stadium knew it, the TV announcers knew it, everyone watching at home knew it. The Bills were not going to go for it on fourth down, they would just try to draw the Eagles offside. Everyone knew it, of course, except Juqua Parker, who inexplicably jumped offside and gave the Bills the first down so they could run out the clock.
Turnovers, mental errors, defensive players out of position and sloppy tackling have all become common place. The coaching staff seems to be clueless on how to remedy the situation.
So let's take a look at some unconventional winners and losers resulting from the Eagles' loss to the Buffalo Bills.
Losers: New York Jets
1 of 5Had the Eagles defeated the Bills, the New York Jets might have had a chance to stay in the race in the AFC East. With the Bills' record now at 4-1, that doesn't seem likely.
The December 18th game between the Eagles and Jets originally looked like it could be one of the big games of the season. Two playoffs teams fighting for their position would have been a great matchup. Forget about it!
Loser: DeSean Jackson
2 of 5DeSean Jackson was hoping to get a long-term contract signed with the team. When team management sees how little return they have gotten for the offseason acquisitions and the long-term contract for Michael Vick, Jackson probably is not going to get it anytime soon.
Loser: Juan Castillo
3 of 5Andy Reid gave Juan Castillo the job as defensive coordinator (DC) to help Castillo's career. Why else would you make an offensive line coach the DC? Had Castillo done well as the DC, he might have one day been in line for a head coach job in the NFL.
But now, with the way the Eagles' defense is playing, the more likely scenario is that Reid will have to fire Castillo to save his own job.
Winner: Atlanta Falcons
4 of 5The first wild card team in the NFC seems to be a lock, either the Green Bay Packers or the Detroit Lions. With the Eagles out of contention, now the Atlanta Falcons would seem to have the inside track for the second NFC wild card if they finish behind the New Orleans Saints.
Winner: Fans Wanting To See a Game
5 of 5It's usually very hard and very expensive to get to see an NFL game at The Linc. But this year might be different. With the lackluster performance of the team, fans who usually can't get a ticket to see an Eagles' game shouldn't have a hard time by the time mid-November rolls around.
