NFL Predictions Week 5: Indianapolis Colts and 3 Bottom-Dwellers That Will Win

Tim KeeneyOct 8, 2011

Here's a quick look at three teams currently sitting at the bottom of their divisions who could pull off upsets in Week 5 of NFL action tomorrow.

Indianapolis Colts

Clearly we'll start with this game, because either way a team in the cellar of their division will come out with a win.

Five weeks ago, no one really would have believed that this would be a game between two of the worst teams in the league. The Colts and the Kansas City Chiefs were playoff contenders until both were hit hard by the injury bug.

Now they both find themselves in the race for Andrew Luck.

The Colts finally looked competent on offense last Monday night, and they should be able to continue that success against a Chiefs defense that is giving up over 31 points per game. That's worst in the NFL.

I still figure this will be relatively low-scoring, but the Colts should be able to find a couple of scores at home.

Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings are going to get their first win of the season one way and one way only: a heavy dose of running back Adrian Peterson.

Peterson needs to get the ball at least 25 times in this one and the Vikings need to let their defense keep the game close. No more of this Donovan McNabb-throwing-more-than-Peterson-runs-it type game plans.

My guess is Minnesota beats the Cardinals in a close one here.

Carolina Panthers

Much unlike the first two games on this list, this one will turn into a shootout. The Panthers make every quarterback look like a Pro Bowler, so it's hard to imagine actual Pro Bowler Drew Brees not putting up more than 30 points for the Saints.

With that being said, the Panthers have shown the ability to keep up with teams in high-scoring games, and they'll probably do just that.

The Saints don't have the toughest secondary, and Cam Newton should throw all over it.

Whatever happens though, it will be close. Carolina has yet to lose a game by less than a touchdown, so it's likely they'll stay in this one. They can easily pull the upset at home.
