Fantasy Football Rankings Week 6: 25 Best Point Scorers
In Week 5's contests, there were several players that made the most of it with their standout performances.
Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger's five-touchdown effort and Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson's three rushes to the end zone provided a great deal of euphoria to their respective league owners around the world.
Who will be the premiere point producers for Week 6? Have a look at 25 who are most likely to enjoy an impressive day on the stat sheet.
25. Matt Schaub
1 of 25Last Game's Stats: 25/51 passing for 416 yards, two TDs, two INTs and one fumble
Week 6 Opponent: at Baltimore
Schaub nearly led a game-winning drive against the Oakland Raiders. However, those hopes of victory ended with his interception in the end zone to end the game. The yardage that Schaub accumulated versus Oakland should be a bit lower when he faces a Ravens defense that gives up 212 yards per game through the air.
24. Rob Gronkowski
2 of 25Last Game's Stats: Four catches for 31 yards receiving
Week 6 Opponent: vs. Dallas
In short order, Gronkowski has become one of Tom Brady's favorite targets. He has been a key contributor in pass plays near the end zone. He hasn't scored since Week 3, but expect that to change real soon.
23. Jimmy Graham
3 of 25Last Game's Stats: Eight catches for 129 yards receiving
Week 6 Opponent: at Tampa Bay
What Rob Gronkowski is to Tom Brady, Jimmy Graham is that, and more, to Drew Brees. The second-year tight end ranks second in the NFL in receptions and fourth in receiving yards.
22. Mark Sanchez
4 of 25Last Game's Stats: 16/26 passing for 166 yards and two TDs
Week 6 Opponent: vs. Miami
Normally, we wouldn't place Sanchez on this list of the top 25 point producers. His numbers so far in 2011 aren't impressive enough to do that. But when you go up against the Dolphins, ranked 31st in passing defense, it's hard to imagine that he won't have a solid night statistically.
21. Matt Ryan
5 of 25Last Game's Stats: 18/32 passing for 167 yards, one TD and two INTs
Week 6 Opponent: vs. Carolina
Unlike his stellar 2010, Ryan's 2011 season is best classified as average. Although he's completed 61.2 percent of his passes, he ranks 13th in the league in terms of passing yardage. More importantly, his team in 2-3. Facing the Panthers, expect Ryan's numbers to be above what he's compiled so far.
20. Josh Freeman
6 of 25Last Game's Stats: 17/33 passing for 187 yards and three INTs
Week 6 Opponent: vs. New Orleans
It couldn't get much worse for Freeman, who suffered a QB rating of 5.7 on the road against the 49ers. Logic dictates that it can only go up, especially considering that he'll be at the friendly confines of Raymond James Stadium and facing a familiar foe.
19. Steve Smith
7 of 25Last Game's Stats: Three catches for 79 yards and one TD receiving
Week 6 Opponent: at Atlanta
Carolina's Smith has been the beneficiary of Cam Newton's passing success and has reverted to the form that made him one of the game's top receivers a few years back. If Smith gets open, Newton will be sure to find him often.
18. Dez Bryant
8 of 25Last Game's Stats: three catches for 35 yards and three TDs receiving
Week 6 Opponent: at New England
Improving health and the opportunity to go up against the worst defense against the pass in 2011. Those two elements play in the favor of the emerging Dallas wideout to have a great day against the Pats.
17. Ryan Fitzpatrick
9 of 25Last Game's Stats: 21/27 passing for 193 yards, one TD and one INT
Week 6 Opponent: at New York Giants
While his team continues to win, Fitzpatrick's stock has slipped slightly as his last two games have resulted in passing yards that were under 200. The Giants, however, yield 373.4 yards per game through the air.
16. Matt Forte
10 of 25Last Game's Stats: 22 carries for 116 yards rushing and four catches for 35 yards receiving
Week 6 Opponent: vs. Minnesota
Forte's outstanding performance against the Carolina Panthers in Week 4 (25 carries, 204 yards) will likely be his high-water mark. Nevertheless, it should be an indication to offensive coordinator Mike Martz that the Tulane product is a player they can pound the ball with more often.
15. Adrian Peterson
11 of 25Last Game's Stats: 29 carries for 122 yards and three TDs
Week 6 Opponent: at Chicago
For the past few seasons, Peterson has been at the top of any fantasy football projection list. This season, he started at about medium speed. He certainly picked it up last week, blowing away the Cardinals to the tune of three first quarter touchdowns. That could be the boost Peterson needs.
14. LeSean McCoy
12 of 25Last Game's Stats: 11 carries for 80 yards and one TD rushing and four catches for 27 yards receiving
Week 6 Opponent: at Washington
If the Eagles look to rebound, they'll likely look to McCoy to gain more yardage on the ground and be a viable receiver out of the backfield. The Redskins defensive front will be a tough one to crack, which is why he is lower than he would be on most weeks.
13. Eli Manning
13 of 25Last Game's Stats: 24/39 passing for 420 yards, three TDs, three INTs and two fumbles (one lost)
Week 6 Opponent: vs. Buffalo
He can certainly get an impressive yardage total against the Bills. But Eli must watch out for turnovers. He committed four in a loss to the Seahawks. Plus, Buffalo leads the league in interceptions and picked off Michael Vick on four occasions last Sunday.
12. Michael Vick
14 of 25Last Game's Stats: 26/40 passing for 315 yards, two TDs and four INTs
Week 6 Opponent: at Washington
Despite the Eagles' four-game losing swoon, Vick's stats have resulted in gaudy fantasy numbers. Two of the four picks he threw were not entirely of his fault, but his carelessness with the ball has ended drives that could have produced points.
11. Fred Jackson
15 of 25Last Game's Stats: 26 carries for 111 yards, one TD rushing and six catches for 85 yards receiving
Week 6 Opponent: at New York Giants
Jackson has emerged from the relative obscurity of being one of the game's underrated backs, thanks mainly to his team's 4-1 start. He is a dual-threat for fantasy owners with his ability to run and catch passes. The Eagles became fully aware of that last week.
10. Calvin Johnson
16 of 25Last Game's Stats: five catches for 130 yards and one TD receiving
Week 6 Opponent: vs. San Francisco
This season's early moments have shown who the newest star at wide receiver is. "Megatron" (nine TDs) is a near-lock to score each game and his tall stature makes him able to get to balls that smaller receivers cannot.
9. Tony Romo
17 of 25Last Game's Stats: 34/47 passing for 331 yards, three TDs and three interceptions
Week 6 Opponent: at New England
Romo has taken Cowboy fans on a roller-coaster of a season. From his fantastic leadership against San Francisco and Washington to his critical errors against New York and Detroit, you never know what he'll do next. But considering that he's facing the worst passing defense in the league this week and will likely have a healthy Miles Austin and Dez Bryant at his disposal, you have to like his chances to put up big numbers.
8. Matthew Stafford
18 of 25Last Game's Stats: 19/26 passing for 219 yards, two TDs and one INT
Week 6 Opponent: vs. San Francisco
The Lions are working their way up the chain of power in the NFL, and Stafford is doing the same amongst the list of quarterbacks. With the help of a star wideout like Calvin Johnson, the former No. 1 pick has been able to throw for no less than 240 yards and two touchdowns in each game this year.
7. Ray Rice
19 of 25Last Game's Stats: 25 carries for 66 yards and one TD rushing and two catches for 64 yards receiving
Week 6 Opponent: vs. Houston
With the Texans losing Mario Williams, that should be a big break for Rice and the Ravens offense. Still, Houston has a solid defense. But Rice should be able to rack up points both rushing the ball and being on the receiving end of a few Joe Flacco passes.
6. Wes Welker
20 of 25Last Game's Stats: Five catches for 124 yards receiving
Week 6 Opponents: vs. Dallas
Welker is on pace to set some single-season receiving records. Up to this point, he has 45 catches for 740 yards and five touchdowns. This positive trend shouldn't be diminished much by a Dallas defense that's weaker against the pass than it is the run.
5. Cam Newton
21 of 25Last Game's Stats: 16/31 passing for 224 yards, two TDs and one INT
Week 6 Opponent: at Atlanta
As we've seen so far in the No. 1 overall pick's brief yet stellar start, Newton isn't afraid to throw even when playing from behind. While he isn't winning many games for his Panthers, he certainly is helping the chances of fantasy owners who have him on their roster. This next game against the Falcons at the fast track in the Georgia Dome should yield a good deal of yardage.
4. Darren McFadden
22 of 25Last Game's Stats: 16 carries for 51 yards rushing and two catches for 17 yards receiving
Week 6 Opponent: vs. Cleveland
McFadden came into last Sundays matchup with the Houston Texans as the league's leading rusher. He left still on top, but suffered his worst performance of the year. That should be an anomaly for him, as all expectations are for a bounce-back effort against a Browns team that ranks 26th in run defense.
3. Drew Brees
23 of 25Last Game's Stats: 32/45 passing for 359 yards, two TDs and one INT
Week 6 Opponent: at Tampa Bay
The Bucs' dreadful performance against the San Francisco 49ers last Sunday made Alex Smith look like Joe Montana with his three touchdown passes. Brees has thrown for more than 1,400 yards in five games. There's no reason why that shouldn't continue.
2. Tom Brady
24 of 25Last Game's Stats: 24/33 passing for 321 yards, one TD and one INT
Week 6 Opponent: vs. Dallas
It would be wrong to think that the Patriots' quarterback would ever have a so-so game, much less a dud. Plus, the Cowboys defense had difficulty stopping Lions QB Matthew Stafford throughout the second half of their Week 4 debacle. Rex Ryan couldn't stop Brady...neither will Rob Ryan.
1. Aaron Rodgers
25 of 25Last Game's Stats: 26/39 passing for 396 yards and two TDs
Week 6 Opponent: vs. St. Louis
Overcoming a 14-0 deficit Sunday night versus the Falcons, Rodgers nearly equaled the yardage effort of two weeks ago against Denver in leading his club to a 25-14 win at the Georgia Dome, which moved the Packers to 5-0. Rodgers been impossible to stop so far this season, and it's highly unlikely that the Rams and their 27th-ranked defense will be able to break this trend of elite performances.
