Magic Johnson NBA 2k12 Video: Watch Magic and Jerry West Debate Greatest Teams
NBA 2K12 has dropped, giving NBA fans a taste of basketball action in a lockout-riddled preseason. It has also given us a chance to debate the greatest teams of all time.
Magic Johnson and Jerry West were asked by LA Times reporter Mark Medina to give their thoughts on the new game.
The video shows a jolly Magic Johnson, willing to give his assessment on video games and Lakers lore. And really, when is Magic not smiling? I think the man was born with a grin the size of Michigan.
Jerry West was a little more gruff. He doesn't get all the new-fangled devices these kids are using these days. And for God's sake, get off his lawn.
The big point of contention are the teams the two feel are the best in history. Both Lakers legends go with purple and gold squads from the days of yore.
Magic Johnson takes the 1986 team, while West goes with the '85 squad. Both teams have largely the same contingent of players, and were known as just one thing—Showtime baby.
These were the Lakers that got up the floor in a hurry, only to have Magic dish off a sweet dime to James Worthy for a dunk, or a pitch-out to Byron Scott for three.
There was nothing sweeter than seeing the art that was a Magic Johnson-orchestrated fast break. The man was more maestro than point guard, and I agree they were the greatest.
But don't just take my word for it. What do you think? Who's your greatest team to ever ball it up? The great thing about NBA 2K12 is that it sparks a grand debate.
Just don't ask Jerry West to play. He hates video games.
