Theo Epstein Cubs: Chicago Picks Perfect Time to Poach Red Sox GM
The Chicago Cubs are making a franchise-defining move by going after Red Sox GM Theo Epstein.
As of right now, Boston ownership is depending on Epstein to find them a new manager after Terry Francona and the team parted ways since their epic collapse at the end of the season.
Francona led the Sox to two World Series titles during his tenure and he did it with a group of players than Epstein went and got for him. It was a solid tandem and now that one part of that dynamic duo is gone, the other may be on his way out as well.

Boston Globe columnist Dan Shaughnessy is the one reporting that he “has learned from a team source that the Chicago Cubs have asked the Red Sox for permission to speak with Theo Epstein regarding a position in their organization.”
After being eliminated on the final day of the regular season from playoff contention, the Red Sox are in full panic mode and are reshuffling their organization. With Francona leaving, one of the more respected managers in the league, it seems that anyone is expendable.
The Cubs are picking the perfect time to grab a young, intelligent GM to lead their team and they are promising him more power than he currently has, and most likely more money.
According to ESPN,
"“The Cubs are searching for a new general manager to replace the fired Jim Hendry, and the Cubs would be in a position to offer Epstein a dual role of GM and president, much like that held by David Dombrowski of the Detroit Tigers.”
"
Epstein would be wise to listen to this offer because at the very least, he can use it as leverage to get a bigger and better contract and more responsibility at the top of his current organization.
If he does decide to join the Cubs, that would be an epic move by a very smart team looking to add a top GM.
