NBA 2k12: Dallas Mavericks and 3 Teams That Should Be Ranked Higher Overall

Eric BowmanOct 5, 2011

Despite the ongoing NBA Lockout, the highly coveted video game NBA 2k12 launched so their fans would have something basketball related this fall. It's a smart move from the makers of NBA 2k12 because basketball fans need something to quench their basketball thirst during this lull period.

They'll have to make adjustments once free agency occurs, but right now the overall rankings look pretty good with the exception of a few teams.

Fans will have to put up with LeBron James and Dwyane Wade being the top overall players. They may also gripe about a few teams who aren't ranked as high as they should be.

According to GameZone.com, the overall team rankings in NBA 2k12 have the Miami Heat at No. 1, followed by the Chicago Bulls, Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks

It's no surprise the Heat are at No. 1, but these three teams should be higher.

Dallas Mavericks

The defending champions as the No. 5 team in the league? It's almost a slap in the face. They were given the ninth best defense and the first overall offense, so I can see why they were placed at No. 5.

However, the Mavericks amazing postseason run needs to be accounted for because that's what the NBA is all about. The team that delivers in the clutch moment and proves they can compete with anyone deserves a little more respect than No. 5.

The age of the Mavericks' roster is also a factor in their ranking, but they should definitely be higher than the Lakers, especially because of how Dallas manhandled the LA in the playoffs.

Maybe the developers were trying to think of which players might leave because of free agency, but that's getting to far ahead and shouldn't be taken into consideration until the rosters actually change.

Every team has flaws, I'd still put Dallas at No. 2 because the Mavericks have proven they can be dominant.

Ranked at No. 7 with the 13th overall defense and the ninth overall offense, the Thunder have to be laughing at the fact that they're behind the Memphis Grizzles.

Sure, the Grizzlies gave the Thunder a nice scare in the playoffs last season, but they're not a better overall team.

The defenses are similar, but the Thunder's offense is better than Memphis. A starting lineup featuring Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, James Harden, Serge Ibaka and Kendrick Perkins is a much better lineup than what the Grizzlies have to offer.

Memphis may play in a harder division, but you can't discredit the Thunder for winning nine more games and being the fourth best team int he Western Conference this past season.

Before you laugh, just hear me out. The Timberwolves were ranked as the last team, which is just wrong. Yes, Minnesota had the worst record last season, but they don't deserve to be dead last on the game.

Kevin Love is going to be nasty on this game, and he alone makes them better than at the Cleveland Cavaliers, who were ranked at No. 27.

Thanks to the lockout, rookies aren't allowed on the game, but when they're added the Timberwolves should definitely rise. With or without the rookies, Minnesota is a better team than the Cavaliers.

Minnesota beat Cleveland twice last year and the same thing would happen this year. The Timberwolves shouldn't be dead last because that place is reserved for Cleveland.
