NBA 2K12: The Latest Piece to the "NBA 2K" Dynasty Is a Must-Own
We may not get a full NBA season this year, but at least we have NBA 2K12.
The latest installment of the top-rated NBA 2K series not only lives up to its NBA 2K11 predecessor, which was arguably the greatest basketball game ever created, some are saying it is actually an improvement, which frankly didn't even seem possible.
Jack DeVries of IGN gave the latest game a 9.5 out of 10.
Wrote DeVries:
"NBA 2K12 takes everything I love about last year and makes it better. Then it takes nearly all the parts I didn't like and turns them awesome. Hey, other sports games, you just got schooled. Again.
"
The first thing NBA 2K12 brings to the table is a whole new set of players. Last year, the series gave us Michael Jordan. This year, you can expect to see Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Hakeem Olajuwon, Scottie Pippen and 10 other basketball greats. Not to mention, the ability to pit today's stars like Dwight Howard against greats of yesteryears like Shaquille O'Neal.
There's also the improvement in the defensive AI, which was one of few weaknesses in last year's game. In this year's game, defenses will capitalize on opportunities, taking advantage of errant passes, poorly executed plays and ill-advised drives to the basket.
On top of this, NBA 2K12 has given us even more control than before. With the improvements in defensive AI, the video game has given us unparalleled control on offense, including which way you pump fake and which hand you use going up for a layup.
You add in all the gameplay modes, including improvements to My Player (which lets you create a player and develop him from the draft on), and a new online mode that lets users play an entire season, and you have yourself a gem that not only is a joy to watch but can be played for countless hours.
And, yes, I know what you're asking: Do some players still look like aliens?
Well, there are still your lesser-known players that won't be spot-on, but overall NBA 2K12 has improved in that area, especially when it comes to stars like Kobe Bryant. Furthermore, the rest of the game looks so amazing—the courts and arenas—that anything that doesn't look spectacular will stand out.
