Seahawks vs. Giants: TV Schedule, Live Streaming, Radio, Game Time and More

Wes ODonnellOct 4, 2011

The Seattle Seahawks will have a hard time with the New York Giants in Week 5.

These two teams, who currently have opposite records at 3-1 (Giants) and 1-3 (Seahawks), are also heading in opposite directions.

The Seahawks have played better in the past two weeks, but they're 0-2 on the road and their weaknesses happen to be the Giants' strengths.

Big Blue have turned things around after their ugly Week 1 loss to Redskins and, most importantly, they have found identity on both sides of the ball.

Despite the number of injuries to their secondary, they've gotten away with it by getting the passer with regularity this season.

New York doesn't always dominate the way it should, so this game has the potential to be interesting for at least the the first half.

What's At Stake?

Playoff implications. The Seahawks cannot afford to fall to 1-4 if they want to have any chance at repeating as division champions. The 49ers sit rather comfortably atop at the NFC West at 3-1, but the rest of the division falls out in rather ugly fashion behind them.

If Seattle loses again, and the 49ers pull an upset over the visiting Buccaneers, Seattle is all but grounded for any chance at the postseason.

The Giants need to keep their momentum going from the Arizona game as they finish out the easiest part of their schedule. After this week's matchup with the Seahawks, the Giants have arguably the toughest closing schedule of any team in the league.

Seahawks' Injury Report

Mike Williams, WR—Suffered a concussion and has to go through testing before being cleared to play against the Giants.

Robert Gallery, OG—The former No. 2 overall pick is out for several more weeks after undergoing surgery on his groin.

Giants' Injury Report

David Baas, C—Eli Manning's new center was listed as day-to-day with a burner. He should be able to get back on the field sooner than later.

Justin Tuck, DE—The Giants' defensive captain was missed in Week 4, and he'll wait until the weekend before making a decision on his injured neck for Week 5.

What They're Saying

The Seattle Times talked about the Seahawks' problems early in games writing:

"

The Seahawks are one-quarter of the way through the season, but it's the first half that has coach Pete Carroll's full attention. Specifically, the first two quarters of games. But not entirely shocking. Seattle has played better in the second half on both sides of the ball, a dichotomy that is strikingly illustrated by the statistics.

"

The New York Post, meanwhile, discussed the Giants' biggest weakness in recent seasons and how they've turned it into a strength this season:

"

Coming off a season characterized by collapses in games and fadeouts down the stretch, the buzzword made sense. Finish the play, finish the game, finish the schedule. As the Giants have won three straight games to go 3-1 through the first quarter of their season, the undeniable characteristic of this group is the ability to shake off adversity and complete what it started.

"

Seahawks Player To Watch: Tarvaris Jackson, QB

Tarvaris "Third and Long" Jackson has been sacked 14 times so far on the season. Only four other quarterbacks have hit the ground more than that, and they have yet to see a defensive front like the Giants.

Jackson has to be smart with the football or he'll doom his team early in the game. If Big Blue produces pressure and forces errant throws, it will put the Seahawks in a hole that they'll never fight their way out of.

Giants Player to Watch: Jake Ballard, TE

This may be a bit obscure, but Ballard's emergence last week with one touchdown catch (was almost two) means Eli Manning is starting to get comfortable with him.

The Giants lost their top tight end in free agency and found no suitable replacement outside of Ballard.

If offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride can find a way to incorporate him, it will only help round out this offense even more.

Key Matchup: Giants' D-Line vs. Seahawks O-Line

Like most matchups with the Giants, this will determine the outcome of the game.

Even if Justin Tuck doesn't play, the Giants' front four is arguably the best in the league. Osi Umenyiora came back a week ago with a big strip-sack-fumble and Jason Pierre-Paul is rapidly developing into a relentless and unstoppable force.

Seattle struggles to protect Jackson against mediocre pass rushes as it is. They'll fall behind early if they can't give Jackson any time to throw.

Prediction: Giants 31, Seahawks 10
