Week 4 Start 'Em, Sit 'Em: Roddy White and Three Must-Starts at Wide Receiver

Hunter AnsleyOct 2, 2011

It's one of the most inconsistent positions in the NFL. Wide receivers face a variety of new challenges every week, from All-Star cornerbacks on the other side of the field to changes at quarterback to conservative game plans.

It's not easy to be a receiver. But it's not impossible, either. Guys like Torrey Smith and Wes Welker proved that last week with incredible yardage and TD totals. And while they may not score three touchdowns or go well over 200 yards receiving, these five pass catchers could be in for huge days.

Sure, he currently leads the league in drops, but he's still the go-to guy for quarterback Matt Ryan. In a losing effort at Tampa Bay last week, White snagged nine balls, helping Ryan and the Falcons make a late romp through the Buccaneers secondary.

Tampa's defensive backs are nothing to write home about, but they're still better than what White and Ryan will face today in Seattle. Expect White to enjoy another Sunday full of targets, finishing with another high catch total as the Falcons continue to learn to play outside.

Vincent Jackson, San Diego Chargers

The Dolphins are headed to town after allowing receivers like Andre Johnson and Wes Welker to rack up monster days in losing efforts. That's a blueprint that the Chargers should be able to follow. Vincent Jackson returned to a full practice Friday, and as long as he stays on the field, he'll be Philip Rivers' favorite target. It doesn't hurt that Antonio Gates is still out with a foot injury.

Mike Wallace, Pittsburgh Steelers

Wallace has yet to slip under the 100-yard mark in any game this season, and there's no reason to believe he'll change that trend today. The Houston Texans defense was hyped as much improved, and while they may be better than versions past, this secondary is still as porous as it gets. Second-year player Kareem Jackson is still struggling to hold receivers under 100 yards, and the Steelers are looking for a signature win. Wallace should snag at least one of his patented bombs from Big Ben Roethlisberger, and he should go over 100 yards yet again.
