10 Better Names We Can Come Up with Than the Brooklyn Nets

Ethan NorofJun 7, 2018

The New Jersey Nets won't exist anymore.

Instead, the franchise will move to Brooklyn and play in the Barclays Center, but some things never change.

Rather than taking advantage of a golden opportunity to shed the Nets nickname from the title, the team will be called the Brooklyn Nets, keeping the nickname that the team had previously held.

Here are 10 alternatives that all would've been a better option.

10. Brooklyn Deckers

1 of 10

Obviously this one is just in good fun, but whenever there’s an opportunity to promote Brooklyn Decker’s image on a uniform, it’s one that warrants consideration.

How much fun would it be if the official mascot patrolling the sidelines was one that the fans actually paid to come see?

It would certainly add an element that other clubs don’t have.

9. New York Nets

2 of 10

This idea was originally floated when the move to Brooklyn was first being talked about, and it would’ve been an interesting moniker had the team decided to roll with it.

Instead, the team decided to go with Brooklyn, essentially isolating the rest of the non-Knicks fans throughout New York from rooting for the new squad.

8. Brooklyn Bridges

3 of 10

Because it just seems to flow right off the tongue, doesn’t it?

The Brooklyn Bridge is a historic landmark in and of itself, and the Bridges would make for a creative marketing of the team as the club collectively transitions to a new identity.

At least this nickname would actually have some sort of relevance.

7. Brooklyn Revolution

4 of 10

It might sound a little awkward at first mention, but just remember that when the Oklahoma City Thunder came around, most weren’t exactly thrilled with that choice, either.

The Revolution not only inspire a sense of underlying patriotism for a team that rocks red, white and blue, but it’s also a great way for a New-York based franchise to take advantage of a serious re-branding opportunity.

6. Brooklyn Atlantics

5 of 10

The team plays on the Eastern seaboard, so it’s only natural to take advantage of geographical entities that can be worked into the name.

This club could claim the entire body of water as its own, an emphatic stamp that the new-look team could be that good.

5. Brooklyn Sharks

6 of 10

It worked in China with Yao’s old team in Shanghai, so why can’t it work stateside?

Sharks are animals that almost nobody is comfortable with if left alone in an isolated situation, and that’s exactly how the new Brooklyn franchise wants to be perceived each and every time they suit up and take the court.

4. Brooklyn Cobras

7 of 10

One of my personal favorites, if only because it would be awesome to see a snake worked into a nickname of a professional basketball team.

Brooklyn is a team that cold quickly sneak up on a lot of people if the club adds to its already intriguing group, and snakes often lie in the grass for a while before getting noticed.

3. Brooklyn Knights

8 of 10

The Knights could make for a very unique team name, and it’s possible that “Dark Knights” could also work quite well here.

While the name seems like it could make for an interesting one and a great logo on the front of a jersey, there are a couple that could be even better for the future of an uncertain franchise.

2. Brooklyn Brawlers

9 of 10

Could there be a better nickname for this team? Yes, but there’s only one.

The Brawlers seem like somewhat of a natural fit for a team that’s going to call Brooklyn its home, as there’s no doubt that toughness is going to be an essential element of the attack going forward.

The league likely wouldn’t like the image that the name portrayed, but it would certainly make for an interesting uniform design.

1. Brooklyn Ballers

10 of 10

It goes beyond the realm of comprehension that this wasn’t the consensus choice for a team that’s moving to Brooklyn, as the Ballers would give the type of alliteration that most could only dream about.

It’s a natural fit for a team that’s looking to rebuild its image and turn around a downtrodden franchise that hasn’t enjoyed the type of success that professional teams strive toward.
