NBA2K12 Demo: Miami Heat vs Dallas Mavericks. Did It Live Up to the Hype?
In case you did not know, the NBA2K12 demo was released to the public for downloading on your console. I was particularly happy because I was sick of my NBA2K11 game and I'm highly anticipating this.
Now, when you start up the game, the first thing you see is the picture of NBA legend Michael Jordan. You start the game and it feels kind of the same. This time, though, instead of just giving one dominating stat about the team's best player, it now gives the three main stats of the best player. In this case, it showed LeBron James' stats and Dirk Nowitzki's stats.
Entering the actual game, I was expecting it to be the same boring introduction of LeBron doing his ritual and some random Mavericks player grabbing the ball. Instead, they've added a hot new feature where it shows players taunting, playing, and basically anything else like a real game with music added in the background.
I won the tip at the start of the first quarter and that's when I realized the downsides. Nothing really new presented itself really. Unless you count the development of players' faces and posting up is now used with the "triangle" button for the PlayStation 3, or "Y" for the XBox360.
Now, as I progressed I notice new dribbling styles and more accurate, real passes. They also finally have Dirk's own signature shot, which looks rather funky, I might add. The funnest thing about this demo was just realizing how much crap the demos are. It doesn't even compare to the final product that will debut on October 4th.
After everything I've seen on websites such as Google or Facebook, I seriously can't wait for the game; but I can pass on the demo. Nothing at all thrilled me about the demo. For one thing, it has no commentary like previous demos. I believe it was confirmed that Steve Kerr was going to join Klark Kellogg and the famous Kevin Harlan so you know I wanted to hear how he was going to fit in. Also, not knowing most of the new controls, I was beaten by "King" James and his crew.
Even though I didn't enjoy the demo as much as I thought I would, the game looks extremely rejuvenated and utterly awesome. For example, the infamous "My Player" mode is now something I know I will never be bored with. Before you're even a rookie, you play in certain games and coaches even interview you causing changes in the draft. Not only that, but you can review what the coaches said in the "mock draft". You can actually sign a contract, get more endorsements, and so much more that I would need another article to review this alone! You can also create your own jumpshot in the game.
To sum it up, the NBA2K12 demo didn't please me. However, that doesn't mean I'm not going to purchase the game. It's a totally different game than its previous installment and I definitely cannot wait to play it firsthand.
