Steven Stamkos: NHL 12
1 of 51NHL 12 has only been out for a week, but it is already apparent that Steven Stamkos is going to be a force in this year's game. With the new found effectiveness of the wrist shot in NHL 12, Steven Stamkos will pile up goals.
Peter Forsberg: NHL Hitz
2 of 51NHL Hitz put an emphasis on the physical play, so two way players like Peter Forsberg became even more valuable in that game. In a matter of seconds Forsberg was able to put a player through the glass and beat the goaltender with a slap shot.
Darius Kasparaitas: NHL 98
3 of 51Defensemen don't get enough love from gamers. In 1998, Darius Kasparaitis was on top of his game in real life as well as in video game world. His rating in the game reflected that and made him extremely difficult to beat.

5 of 51Brendan Shanahan had a productive NHL career as a power forward. His virtual career was just as successful. Shanahan hit his peak in 2001 in the middle of his streak of 70 point seasons.
Jeff Carter: NHL 10
6 of 51In NHL 10 there was a small glitch in the gameplay where a player with a solid toe drag and wrist shot could put the puck into the top corner with ease. This made Jeff Carter absolutely deadly.
Sidney Crosby: NHL 10
7 of 51Sidney Crosby always finds himself among the league leaders, both in the real world and the EA Sports world. Crosby does not have any of the defining traits that make him a video game monster, but his terrific all around game makes him a pain to play against in every version of the NHL video game.
Jarome Iginla: NHL 2005
8 of 51NHL 2005 introduced a gameplay mode called Free 4 All. In that mode four skaters would battle it out every man for himself. Jarome Iginla was an absolute beast in this game mode. His size, speed and shot made him the best choice.
Sergei Samsonov: NHL 2002
9 of 51Sergei Samsonov has never been a superstar in the NHL. However, the speed he possesses makes him an excellent player to have on your video game team. Samsonov's value maxed out after his back-to-back 70 point seasons with the Boston Bruins.
Zdeno Chara: NHL 10
10 of 51Zdeno Chara makes hockey look easy thanks to his 6'9'' frame. For gamers who chose the Bruins in NHL 10, they saw just how easy virtual Chara can make things as well. He was impossible to knock off of his feet and punished forwards with his physical play.

39 of 51There's a reason Patrick Roy was made one of the legends in NHL 12. His career, both in real life and in the virtual simulation, was exemplary. Particularly in NHL 97 Roy was unbeatable.
Pavel Datsyuk: NHL 11
40 of 51Many consider Pavel Datsyuk to be the best player in the NHL today. NHL 11 certainly supported that belief, as Datsyuk's dangling skills made him automatic in one-on-one situations with the goalie.
Alexander Ovechkin: NHL 10
41 of 51Earlier in the article I mentioned the semi-glitch in NHL 10 that made Jeff Carter a beast. Well, that glitch made Alex Ovechkin a monster. His wrist shot is insane and his stickhandling is even better, so letting it rip from the top of the circles was automatic with Ovi.

Dominik Hasek: NHL 2K4
48 of 51Dominik Hasek is in the discussion as the greatest goaltender to ever play the game. He's also the runway in terms of best video game goalie. NHL 2K4 is the best example of just how awesome Hasek was.
Pavel Bure: NHL 95
49 of 51In NHL 95, Pavel Bure took the reigns as the video game's most outstanding player. He had a great speed rating and that's really all that mattered in that game.
