Hakeem Nicks Injury: Should You Start WR for Fantasy Football Week 2?

Ryan PhillipsJun 7, 2018

New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks could be the definition of a game-time decision this week. The third-year wideout was limited in practice on Saturday after suffering a knee injury in the Giants' 28-21 Week 1 loss to the Washington Redskins.

At this point Nicks is listed as questionable, but he insists he will play Monday night. It looks as though he will at least see the field as long as he doesn't re-aggravate the injury between now and then. He has now had two limited days of practice, which should be enough for him to have tested the knee out without putting too much strain on it.

Nicks has said several times that he will play Monday night against the St. Louis Rams. At this point, I'm inclined to believe him.

Nicks looked like a star in Week 1, as he caught seven passes for 122 yards. He has clearly emerged as quarterback Eli Manning's favorite target. As long as he stays healthy, Nicks should be a fantasy stud all season. The fact that he even practiced at all this week is encouraging after it looked like he wouldn't go at all just five days ago.

If for some reason Nicks can't go, expect Domenik Hixon to start in his place. Against a banged up Rams secondary Hixon and Mario Manningham could be in for big games. Obviously if Nicks plays he will be as well.

Going by the injury list it's basically a coin-flip if Nicks plays or not, but reading into things I've got to think he at least tries to see the field. He clearly wants to play but it will depend on what the Giants think of his progress by Monday night.

Nicks is a shaky start this week because of the uncertainty, but he could have a big game if he plays. While it's a high-risk move, I'd have him in my lineup.
