Sacramento Kings 2011: Team Depth Chart and Player Goals

Danny HaugerSep 12, 2011

The 2011-12 season has a sense of promise in the air despite the polluting reports and rumors that clouded the skies with pessimism about the Sacramento Kings. Hope is beginning to replenish with the welcoming of Jimmer Fredette and offseason possibilities that could spark one of the youngest teams in the NBA to make a playoff run.

Team Goals

  1. Make the playoffs for the first time since 2006.
  2. Win 45 games and finish runner-up in the Pacific Division.
  3. Coach Jimmer Fredette to the NBA All-Rookie First Team.
  4. Trade two to three forwards to acquire a present or past All-Star-caliber player.
  5. Develop Tyreke Evans as an efficient point guard commanding the offense.
  6. Establish forward rotation on a consistency stays basis. Rotating nightly lineups does little for morale and provides a sense of stable development.

Roster Breakdown

Team management has an interesting set of decisions when cutting down to the 12 playable roster spots. One of the aspects that is both a strength and a weakness is the youth, which may translate to inexperience. The 2010 roster was energetic, but lacked cohesive chemistry and defined roles.

The latter issue of defined roles may be a crux of contemplation again in 2011 because of the blending of guards and forwards in terms of court responsibility. There are too many cross-over players who lack specialization. There are a plethora of median players and there is an absence of leadership.
