NFL Scores Week 1: Which Teams are off to the Most Shocking Starts?
"Any Given Sunday." Those words are constantly said, but until they actually play the game, those words are meaningless.
But today, we have a few games that have proven the words true, in that the games have become surprising. Maybe the teams winning aren't surprising, but they sure are winning in a surprising way.
Here are a few that most people wouldn't have predicted would happen.
Atlanta Falcons at Chicago Bears
1 of 5The Atlanta Falcons were thought to be one of the best in the league. That still may be, but not against the Chicago Bears. Atlanta has yet to score a touchdown in almost three full quarters of play, while Matt Ryan has an interception to his credit.
As the Bears currently lead 30-6, Jay Cutler is 18/24 with two touchdowns and 276 yards passing. He is trying to prove he's still the same QB that led the Bears to a NFCCG last season after going down in the second quarter of that game with a knee issue.
The Bears are on a tear, and they are looking to show that they belong in the upper echelon.
Pittsburgh Steelers at Baltimore Ravens
2 of 5The Ravens are winning the game, and the Steelers are struggling against the Ravens defense. That isn't surprising. The Ravens are winning by almost 30, which is surprising. Though the current score is 32-7, it feels worse than that.
The Ravens aren't just barely winning or have been on the receiving end of a ton of luck. They've been flat out dominating the Pittsburgh Steelers.
With a full quarter still to play, the Steelers still have a chance. They're going to need every chance they can get to stop this Ravens offense.
Indianapolis Colts at Houston Texans
3 of 5The Houston Texans won last year 34-24 with one of the worst defenses in NFL history and with Peyton Manning starting.
So without Manning, the Colts' chances were considered to be slim. However, was it so bad they you would think 34-7 was possible? Because that's what's happening.
The Colts offense can't do anything, even with two interceptions from Schaub helping them out. The Colts have only reached the Texans 20 yard line and missed a field goal.
They were finally able to score after a fumble by Ben Tate, but it's nowhere near enough.
Buffalo Bills at Kansas City Chiefs
4 of 5So the Bills. They can't win, right? How will they ever be able to score against the Kansas City defense and defeat their running game? Apparently, very easily, as they lead 41-7 at the start of the fourth quarter.
Matt Cassel is trying to lead the Chiefs back to a victory. But uh, things aren't looking so good for them.
Detroit Lions at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
5 of 5The Bucs had a 10-6 record last year. They had such great potential that people thought they would be able to tap into this year. They said the same about the Lions. Both teams have played hard. The Lions, however, have played harder. About 27-14 harder, in fact.
The Bucs still have a chance to win, but the Lions are trying to show that they belong in the NFC North along with the Packers and Bears.
Incidentally, this is the third time the NFC North has played the NFC South. All three times have led to the North getting the best of the match up.
