NFL Picks Week 1: Which Teams Should Be On Upset Alert?
Week 1 of the 2011 NFL season is here, bringing with it a fresh set of teams on upset alert.
Can Michael Vick start off the season right?
What about Tom Brady or the Peyton-less Colts?
This first week is full of intriguing match ups. Not all of them will be as easy to pick as you might think.
Here are five games you need to watch because they may just buck your expectations.
Philadelphia Eagles at St. Louis Rams
1 of 5The "Dream Team" has a lot of pressure on it going into this season.
Add to that a team that has a young, talented quarterback in Sam Bradford and something to prove, and you have a recipe for an upset.
St. Louis improved over the offseason and will want to start off their season right.
The Eagles will feel the pressure on the road.
Detroit Lions at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
2 of 5Ndamukong Suh has made the Lions' defense one of the most dangerous in the entire NFL.
The Bucs are a good team, but Josh Freeman is a young quarterback and will be bothered by Suh and Co.
If Matthew Stafford can have the big game he's capable of, the Lions will have a great chance of upsetting Tampa Bay.
Indianapolis Colts at Houston Texans
3 of 5If the Houston Texas are ever going to win the AFC South, this has to be the year.
Peyton Manning is down, and the Colts are down with him. And that may be exactly why the Texans will lose this week.
The more news that comes out about how Manning is going to miss more and more time, the more the pressure mounts on the heads of the Texans.
Kerry Collins is no slouch. He knows how to quarterback a football team.
Arian Foster won't be 100 percent.
The Colts may pull the upset of the week.
Dallas Cowboys at New York Jets
4 of 5Dallas was bad last year. The Jets were good.
But it is a new year.
Dallas has added perhaps the only man who can out "Ryan" Rex Ryan—his brother Rob Ryan.
It will be a game filled with confusing and chaotic defensive schemes. The calmer, more experienced QB will have a better shot at winning.
Tony Romo will be that guy. Mark Sanchez will get shaken.
New England Patriots at Miami Dolphins
5 of 5This might be the biggest stretch, but it's very possible.
The biggest strength and fault in New England might just be their arrogance.
They made some big-name additions in the short offseason in Chad Ochocinco and Albert Haynesworth.
Miami added a playmaker in Reggie Bush, which is not as impressive but will still help.
New England will be a bit overconfident, and if Chad Henne can get the ball to Bush and Brandon Marshall, Miami could win this one.
