NFL Preseason: 5 Teams Who Keep Going from Bad to Worse
Now that football has finally returned and the NFL regular season is almost upon us, we are able to see what teams might be in for a long season.
The National Football League is filled with so much parity every year that teams always surprise us. However, sometimes you can look at a roster and see a club that will be drafting early the following season.
Here is a list of teams that have simply gone from bad to worse in the past month.
Seattle Seahawks
1 of 5While Sidney Rice and Zach Miller bring some credibility to the lineup, the team is still missing out on football’s most important position: quarterback.
The Seattle Seahawks failed to select a quarterback in the draft and instead opted to sign Tavaris Jackson. After six years in the league, Jackson has proven he is not capable of being a starting NFL quarterback.
Another big issue for the Seahawks is their offensive line. Russell Okung has been solid when healthy, but he has not been able to stay on the field. They say his most recent injury is not serious, but the team should be concerned. The rest of the line does not work well in his absence.
Oakland Raiders
2 of 5When your team is built around speed and Jason Campbell is your QB, you are not prepared for the future. The Oakland Raiders employ an almost comical group of failed quarterbacks with Campbell, Kyle Boller, Trent Edwards and the newly drafted Terrelle Pryor.
None of these players should be expected to do anything positive for this franchise.
The Raiders have some young offensive weapons, but Al Davis has missed on enough draft picks to keep them behind for a while.
The team also lost its best player this offseason in Nnamdi Asomugha, which will greatly affect what it is able to do on defense.
Tennessee Titans
3 of 5Their best player, Chris Johnson, is refusing to show up to camp. Their second-best offensive weapon, Kenny Britt, will most likely be suspended. Their quarterback is Matt Hasselbeck.
Still, the ESPN experts rank 12 teams below the Tennessee Titans.
While some of these issues might be resolved by the time the season starts, it will not be enough to mask the overall lack of talent on the roster. The defense could not stop anyone last season, giving up the seventh-most yards in the league.
The Titans should hope that first-round pick Jake Locker will be ready to play as soon as possible.
Cincinnati Bengals
4 of 5Unlike some of the other teams on this list, the Cincinnati Bengals are actually looking towards the future. They cut their expensive dead weight, drafted a quarterback and picked up a receiver who could be a star someday.
Unfortunately for Bengals fans, they will be terrible this season. Andy Dalton is not ready for the NFL, but they have no choice but to throw him out to the wolves and start him in Week 1. Cedric Benson gains a lot of yards, but only because he gets way too many carries. Last year, Benson averaged only 3.5 yards per carry.
The team seems like it could win in the future, but it will lose a lot of games this year.
Buffalo Bills
5 of 5The Buffalo Bills finished 4-12 a year ago, and they did very little to improve their team. As a whole, they give very little reason to expect anything better this season.
The biggest problem with the Bills is that they are filled with a team of adequate, but not good players.
Could Ryan Fitzpatrick win with enough talent around him? Definitely. But he is below average and cannot take over games by himself.
Similarly, Fred Jackson seems to be holding on to his starting job by a thread. The best hope the Bills have is that C.J. Spiller becomes the running back they thought he could be when they drafted him in the first round a year ago.
Otherwise, Buffalo will be in for another long season.
