UFC 134 Results: What's Next for the Winners?
Well, if that wasn't one of the greatest cards in UFC history, then I don't know what was.
And if that wasn't a shameless plug for one of my own articles, then I don't know what was.
Every fighter tonight has got to move on to their next fight, so they can continue to climb the ladder towards their ultimate goals in this sport.
Read on to see what's next for each of the 12 winners from UFC 134.
Yves Jabouin
1 of 13Yves Jabouin (16-7) is a bantamweight fighter who defeated Ian Loveland by split decision on the Facebook undercard.
Next up for him could be a fight with Nick Pace or another lower level bantamweight.
Yuri Alcantara
2 of 13Yuri Alcantara (26-3) is a featherweight fighter who defeated Felipe Arantes by unanimous decision on the Facebook undercard.
I have Alcantara pegged as a future title challenger, and I'm sure the UFC does too.
Perhaps a fight against Chan Sung Jung or the winner of Erik Koch/Jonathan Brookins is in the cards.
Erick Silva
3 of 13Erick Silva (13-1, 1 NC) is a welterweight fighter who defeated Luis Ramos by TKO on the Facebook undercard.
Silva made a big statement, as he defeated Ramos in only 40 seconds, and his fight was shown on the Spike TV card, and on the PPV.
Silva could be a big thing at welterweight, and he could be tested against Carlos Eduardo Rocha, or someone of his caliber next.
Raphael Assunção
4 of 13Raphael Assunção (17-4) is a bantamweight fighter who defeated Johnny Eduardo by unanimous decision on the Facebook undercard.
Assunção could face off against the same people as Yves Jabouin, or maybe even Jabouin himself.
Paulo Thiago
5 of 13Paulo Thiago (14-3) is a welterweight fighter who defeated David Mitchell by unanimous decision on the Facebook undercard.
Thiago proved that he is back, and over his two-loss streak, as he handily defeated Mitchell.
Thiago was a top contender at one time, and if he wants to get back there, he could take a fight against someone like the winner of the Charlie Brenneman/Anthony Johnson winner.
Rousimar Palhares
6 of 13Rousimar Palhares (13-3) is a middleweight fighter who defeated Dan Miller by unanimous decision on the Spike TV undercard.
Palhares and Miller had one of the wackiest fights of the year, in which Palhares thought he had won, but Herb Dean never ended it.
In the end, Palhares did pull out the victory, and could face off against the winner, or loser, of the Demian Maia/Jorge Santiago fight.
Thiago Tavares
7 of 13Thiago Tavares (16-4-1) is a lightweight fighter who defeated Spencer Fisher by TKO on the Spike TV undercard.
Tavares had no trouble in handling Fisher, and had him in danger from start to finish.
Tavares has been a relatively inconsistent fighter—maybe he could get a fight against the loser of the Takanori Gomi/Nate Diaz fight, or George Sotiropoulos.
Stanislav Nedkov
8 of 13Stanislav Nedkov (12-0) is a light-heavyweight fighter who defeated Luiz Cane by TKO on the PPV.
Nedkov came in making his UFC debut in unfriendly territory, as he took on the Brazilian, Luiz Cane.
Cane was winning the round early on and bloodied Nedkov up, but with a well-timed counter, and some good ground-and-pound, Nedkov came out the victor.
I see a fight with Alexander Gustafsson or the Ryan Bader/Jason Brilz winner in Nedkov's near future.
Antonio Rodrigo "Minotauro" Nogueira
9 of 13Minotauro Nogueira (33-6-1 [1 NC]) is a heavyweight fighter who defeated Brendan Schaub by KO on the PPV.
Nogueira made his long awaited return to the Octagon, after a nearly 18-month layoff, to take on up and coming prospect, Brendan Schaub.
Nogueira was able to control the action, and in the first round he knocked Schaub out and put him face first on the canvas.
Next up for Nogueira could be Shane Carwin or the winner of the Matt Mitrione/Cheick Kongo fight.
Edson Barboza
10 of 13Edson Barboza (9-0) is a lightweight fighter who defeated Ross Pearson by split decision on the PPV.
Barboza is one of the brightest young prospects in the lightweight division, and proved that he is the real deal when he defeated Pearson.
Barboza is now due for a step up in competition, and some possible opponents are Sean Sherk, Diaz/Gomi winner, or Donald Cerrone.
Mauricio "Shogun" Rua
11 of 13Mauricio "Shogun" Rua (20-5) is a light-heavyweight fighter who defeated Forrest Griffin by KO on the PPV.
Rua showed that he still has plenty of game, and his killer instinct, as he finished Forrest Griffin by first-round knockout.
At this point, there's only one fight that makes sense for Shogun, and that would be a third fight with Lyoto Machida for the No. 1 contender spot in the stacked UFC light-heavyweight division.
Anderson Silva
12 of 13Anderson "The Spider" Silva (31-4) is the UFC middleweight champion and he defeated Yushin Okami by TKO on the PPV.
What is there to be said about Anderson Silva that hasn't been said already?
His next fight will likely be against the winner of the Chael Sonnen/Brian Stann matchup at UFC 136.
