Four-star Spurs knock Liverpool out the cup

Tottenham 4 - Liverpool 2 (League Cup, November 12, 2008) After a quiet opening, Tottenham dominated themselves on proceedings when Frazier Campbell broke down the left and his cross was clinically dispatched by Roman Pavlyuchenko. Horrible defending then allowed Spurs to double their lead, Cavalieri’s indecision was exploited by Fazier Campbell who rolled in the second. And just three minutes later, on the stroke of halftime, Campbell made it 3-nil with a header from Lennon’s cross. Liverpool pulled a goal back straight after the restart as Gomes lost his bearings from Babel’s cross and Damien Plessis headed home. But Spurs restored their three goal buffer when Zokora’s run and cross was turned home by Pavlyuchenko. Gomes was then at fault again from another Babel corner, the keeper left grabbing at thin air while Sami Hyypia pulled another goal back. The Reds pressed but failed to add any more goals, leaving the defending champions to progress and record their second victory over Liverpool in recent weeks.

Leicester 1 - Yeovil 0 (League One, November 11, 2008) Midway through the first half Lloyd Dyer finished a good Leicester move to score the only goal of the match.

Celtic 3 - Kilmarnock 0 (SPL, November 12, 2008) Cillian Sheridan scored a goal in either half before Nakamura made the points safe with a late curling effort.

Udinese 0 - Reggina 0 (Pens. 8-7) (Coppa Italia, November 12, 2008) In a hard fought battle, Udinese had Belardi (86) and Quagliarella (118) both sent off, while Reggina’s Hallfredsson missed an 88th minute penalty before the hosts won on spot-kicks.

Sampdoria 2 - Empoli 1 (Coppa Italia, November 12, 2008) Samp moved ahead thanks to a Bonazzoli tap-in, and the lead was doubled with a Fornaroli penalty. Lodi struck a left-footer into the bottom corner to give the visitors hope of a come back, which sadly never materialised.

PSG 2 - Nancy 0 (Coupe de la Ligue, November 12, 2008) Peguy Luyindula fired PSG in front against Nancy with a cool finish on the half hour. Luyindula quickly extended the Parisians’ lead when he connected with a long through-ball, before deftly knocking in the second.

Le Havre 2 - Rennes 1 (Coupe de la Ligue, November 12, 2008) Rennes moved ahead after El Fardou Nabouhane converted a superb near-post volley. But Rennes soon replied as Sow produced his own bit of magic at the near-post to control the ball and fire the ball into the far corner.

Vannes 2 - Auxerre 0 (Coupe de la Ligue, November 11, 2008) Auxerre’s poor form followed them into the cup, as goals from Laurent Herve (74) and Kemal Bourhani (90) were enough to give the Ligue 2 outfit a famous victory.

Montpellier 1 - Chateauroux 2 (Coupe de la Ligue, November 11, 2008)

FC Volendam 1 - Ajax 0 (KNVB Beker, November 12, 2008) After a goalless 90 minutes, Volendam knocked out the Dutch giants with an injury time winner from Tuyp.
